The Ref Stop

Hi everybody

The Ref Stop
Yea so he should let you I honestly don't see no problems

Craig, you have been really helpful, you have answered questions which Brum FA wouldn't help me with.

I can't thank you enough. You never know I might be on one of your lines soon.

Thanks mate!

No problem hopefully see you during the season mate and good luck with your exam and 5 games

My advice is to be an assistant on the West Midlands League or the MFL.

Yeah, that's exactly what I want to do. And of course referee games on a Sunday morning and afternoon.

Craig - I contacted Glyn and he said he is swarming with assistant ref's at the moment and also said that I won't be allowed to do it until I have passed the exam after my 5 games anyway.

Oh right ok mate well his let one of of my friends on who is still classed as a level 9 but ok mate I think he can one more assistant anyway problem with coming onto the Mfl is you won't be able to do any middles until your level 6

At the moment I don't have a problem with not getting middles in MFL, so I'm going to get my 5 games done and see what opens up for me.

When you did your ref course with Brum Fa did they get you your 5 games?

Reason I ask is they are supposed to be getting mine for me, was supposed to get an email Monday just gone saying what league I'm on but I didn't get it.

I've sent Richard an email and he said not to worry about it, however I am worried because my first game is supposed to be next Sunday!

I'm going to preface this by saying that this is how things worked for me as a new ref in Surrey and Essex, zero experience with your region.

I wouldn't worry too much about getting AR gigs early on to be honest - apart from running the line for my brother's team as a club AR a few times, I had 2 AR appointments in my first 2.5 seasons as a L9 & 7, and will have had another 5 or 6 by the time 6 months have passed after I became L6. I think that although many leagues are permitted to offer lines to L7's, it's pretty common that the comparatively small number of leagues who use NAR's will have enough L5's and L6's that they won't need to use L7's and below too frequently.

@Andy A, middles at grassroots level will be readily available to you even if you do just have to contact the leagues directly and offer your services. I think this is where you'll be expected to focus first. You'll be a better AR with experience in the middle and you'll be more "desirable" as an AR with the L6 qualification by your name if you do choose to work through the promotion scheme.

Thanks for sharing those thoughts Graeme, much appreciated.
