The Ref Stop
Going to do it, still not 100% sure I'll see out the season at 4 but I'll try give it a go!

12 minute run, L4 must cover min 2600m, L3 2700m then 2 x 50m sprints in 7.5 seconds, not sure if sprints are different for L3

Good luck. Currently sunning it in France so taking mine in July. Intense training starts when I get back but I have my runnibg gear here with me and have done a small amount of training.

Not sure why the FA get so het up on fitness tests, getting decisions right is 90% job done. That doesn't mean out sprinting the strikers! You should really be having another hobby if you haven't some form general fitness to start to be a referee, decent eyes, half a brain and semi functioning ears they help too! :(

So how do they ensure you do actually have a general form of fitness?
I agree that they're unnecessary perhaps at Sunday league level (as I'm sure we'd lose half of the referees if they had to do a test due to their lack of fitness!) but at level 4+ the pace of the game requires a certain fitness level.

There is a clue in the word ‘Assesment’.. Qualified assessors watch said individuals on all aspects of their match control, surely that can include an ‘up with play element’...I’ve never got this full correlation with the fittest refs are the best refs and the chubbier ones are all useless. That’s fattism.... :asshat:

After scoffing at your post originally I find myself now somewhat in agreement @Sheffields Finest. However I do think some sort of test is needed, if only to act as an incentive to keep your fitness at certain level.

Passing the test as it stands confirms your ability to run round a track for 12 mins, not whether you're fit enough to ref at supply level or run the line at contrib.

They are absolutely needed, although I would personally switch it to the FIFA style test rather than the Cooper test.

Back when I was a level 3 I used to breeze the fitness test, usually covering 2.9 to 3km, but still found myself blowing out of my rear end in some games. Some of those contrib games need an incredibly high level of fitness due to the pace of the game, and it would be pointless promoting referees to that level who have no chance of being able to keep up.

I agree, a test better suited to the challenges of refereeing should be used, however the cooper test is so easy to administrate I doubt they'll switch.

Yes, FIFA test certainly needs more staff to administer it, plus more equipment for the start and end gates.

reading what the the fitness test is I don't think it sounds too bad. With general fitness through the season it should be easily achievable. I would like to take it just to see where I am but as a level 7 and not looking for promotion as I specialise in youth footie I will never take this test. But on a track I can run 5k under 21 seconds.

5k in under 21 seconds? Superman ...?!
