Something for all to consider in circumstances such those mentioned in the OP.. The FA (or CFA at lower levels), may also hand out a suspension to the official(s) concerned as they would be considered to be "wrong in law."
Many of us will thankfully go through the whole of our careers without being involved in such a situation.

A lesson to us all - keep studying the gospel according to IFAB and keep abreast of the finer details of the LOTG..

There's no may, it is absolutely guaranteed. The ARs may escape given they will be L5 or below, but the L4 referee will be charged with failing to proficiently apply the laws of the game and get a 3 week rest.
