Seems more harsh than the one in the Leeds game.

Is this where VAR threshold gets tricky because it does hit the hand but surely despite that you could say it's a clear and obvious error because of proximity and natural position.

Many penalties have been given over the years for this type of incident. Like the Leeds game, he knew what he was doing with last ditch attempt to throw himself to block the shot. Was he a bit unlucky with the decision - yes. Was it a clear & obvious error - no.

I’m not convinced on this one. I was happy with the one given against Tarkowski as the ball had travelled so far. But I’m not entirely sure what the defender should do in this instance

Understood, but whenever a player throws himself to block the ball from short range, the risk of any Referee awarding a penalty kick when the ball hits the arm of the said player is higher than if he didn’t. It also appears from the angle the Referee had that it hit an outstretched arm (though not so outstretched when seen from the angle the active AR had as well as the force of the ball moving the position of the arm). However, once referred to VAR, there was little chance of it being over-turned unless VAR asked the Referee to look at the monitor.

Yes but Howard Webb wants a higher threshold for handball and this incident I feel is one where natural position of the arms comes into play. Defenders should be allowed to try and block the ball and aslong as there arms are not outstretched then I don't think a penalty should be awarded imo.
