The Ref Stop
Orsato is a near lock unless his game with England goes spectacularly up in flames.
Absolutely agree on Orsato for the final unless things go very sideways.

As for teams, I'm going out on a limb a little and will say Spain (OK, not going out on a limb) vs Switzerland (that's my out on a limb pick) with Spain winning. Sorry to my England friends and colleagues, but Saturday's game feels like the classic case of a team with less talent but playing well getting past a more talented team who hasn't really come close to putting it together.

I think it England don't get there and we go on tournament performance Taylor has to be close. But I've seen Orsato being mooted everywhere so he has a very good chance too.

I'd be really surprised if the final three matches aren't Vincic/Marciniak/Orsato. Unless a little rumor about Marciniak falling out of favor is true but I doubt it.

Loads on social media saying Taylor was rubbish and should be sent home..

Now, if England get through to the semi finals, then he will of course get sent home unless they put him, or Oliver, on reserve for either 3rd/4th play off or the final for whichever England don't make. They won't want an English referee having a say on who makes the final if it helps England. You can imagine the uproar of conspiracy for that.
But these on social media criticising Taylor would have you believe it will be because, in their opinion, he done poorly and not because England's still in it.

There isn't a third place playoff.

I’m firmly convinced that if Taylor had given a penalty, social media would be in an uproar with the exact opposite argument they are making now.

Simply put, social media automatically assumes English referees are wrong.

I’m now convinced we’re doing a 2016 Portugal! Terrible throughout and keep scraping through!
Come on the lads!

I would add Daniel Siebert of Germany into the mix given Germany are out and if Netherlands lose to Türkiye then Danny Makkelie is also available.

A couple of small questions from observing the refs:

Why would you roll up your sleeves when you can just wear short sleeves? It looks so scruffy.

Why do some refs run around with the whistle in their mouth? That must be distracting, dangerous and difficult.

It's just how Turpin does it. If he's comfortable etc no harm!

Marciniak for the final and the 3 big ones in 18 months...
