Not too sure about the 9 minutes added on by the official at the end... 3 mins at a push for the substitutions. and maybe a minute for the goal then that is 5 mins of supposed time wasting/injury time. Who is it that monitors this time? Is it the fourth official or the referee?

It was 7 minutes that were indicated, but then the goal being scored led to that being extended. There had been a lot of injuries, especially for cramp, and they all add up.

In my experience the 4th official will keep a note of stoppages and then discuss what they have with the referee before putting the board up. No idea if that is what happened in this game though.

Thanks for that.

In many higher level games, AR2 times each and every (relevant) stoppage and feeds in this info over the comms to the fourth official. They then note this on the official match record (the ‘green card’) and will relay the proposed additional time to the referee a couple of minutes before the end of each half. The final decision on the additional time then rests with the referee to confirm / decide

Whilst I feel the officiating has been very "soft" this tournament, which I haven't enjoyed as a fan - I think the football has suffered.

Credit to the Croatian referee for her consistency on these "soft" fouls - even the penalty

Where games have VAR, the AR protocol for penalties has been changed. VAR monitors GK infringements and AR focuses on offside offences in any play that follows after the penalty
Who checks for players entering the box ? I'm sure there was an England player in the D !

I wasn't overly impressed. I know she was trying to let the game flow, but there were some bad fouls she missed, which could have led to it spilling over. I think the occasional word with a player on public display would have shown everyone she had it in control.

It would be irrelevant if there was as Chloe Kelly was the one who tapped in her own rebound so no other player had an impact, but even so I don't believe the other player that ended up close to Chloe Kelly when she knocked it in was in the D at the time of the kick, but actually she ran from further back so she had the momentum enabling her to be the quickest on the scene.

Not sure I'd want to be giving that penalty in a step 3/4 game though 😆

True. It did seem quite soft, especially given some of the fouls she let go

I think it would have been an absolute certainty that VAR would have also given the penalty. Learned a few new things on this, so thanks to all who have replied.

I actually thought it was ridiculous of the defender to clamber all over the England player right in front of the nose of the referee. Was soft, but I think anywhere else on the FoP this is being given based on the foul tolerance.

Felt the referee was very consistent, and managed the game very well. Missed a couple of fouls but then again, who doesn’t. Very brave refereeing none the less to give a 95th minute KMI pen!

Interested in views on how strict they should be on 'no jewellery'
The Italian captain definitely had a tongue stud, which could clearly be seen when she was belting out their national anthem. I also noticed that one of the substitutes had a belly button piercing (she lifted up her shirt before she came on).

Presumably if you can't see it, it doesn't matter, but the tongue stud could be dangerous, no?

I wouldn't say 'if you can't see it, it doesn't matter', because as you correctly say the tongue stud could be dangerous, but equally I've never thought to ask players to stick their tongues out or lift their shirts during a pre match kit inspection. I think some degree of trust / responsibility has to lie with the players.

There's a video that does the rounds every now and again of an old chap who was a referee who wouldn't let someone play as they had a Prince Albert piercing. The player toddles off to take it out, but the referee insists on the player showing him............

Images going through my mind of the tongue stud being caught in the belly piercing during a challenge, and even worse.... images with the PA involved...
