U16 game this morning, defender gets a knock, no foul , attackers playing on, move breaks down, defenders team have ball so I stop play, as knocked defender is down
So I restart play with drop ball kinda half way line centre circle, uncontested, defender knocked ball back the 40 yards.......to the gk who picks it up :(
IDFK to attackers now and yip only goal of game
Not controversial as such, there was nobody moaning about it, just a bit a bit of a strange passage of play

I've shouted 'don't pick it up' at keepers and more than once, they pick it up
There's a big advantage as a golfer to know the rules, why should it be any different in football?
 
Yes I do that, thing is, I was where I dropped the ball, gk had defenders either side of him to pass it to, nobody but nobody could have predicted him lifting the ball
I can only think he had a brain freeze as it was knocked bk to him by his team mate at a dropped ball
I had no choice but to penalise it.

My shout seems to be "keeper you can lift" when they seem to be in doubt

I think I’d be a little bit disappointed with the team who scored if I was an opposing coach. I’d say the sporting thing to do would be to give the keeper the ball back or kick it out for a goal kick from the IDFK.

U16 you have no choice regardless of the level
Even U14 i'd say the same
Maybe U12 in a regular game, i might be tempted into education. Buy then, as an competent adult, it's unusual to be put on 14s
12s would only happen in County Cup

Trust me I was searching in my head for any reason not to give the idfk, but no, I had to give it, and then at the fk, hoping it never went in, But. Alas, it did
Nobody turned on me, nobody even turned on the gk tbh, it was just a bit surreal

Don't agree, at U16, you have to apply the laws. If you go down the path of waiving them it will bite you on the arse

Absolutely agree, I have no issue with the referee applying the laws of the game. My point was that the scoring team could perhaps have seen a bit of sense and not taken advantage of the situation.

It was not a heated game where they would have revelled in the misfortune of the other team, and in a perfect world, forgoing the advantage would be great, but its competitive with points at stake, and its not like they used deception or anything sly to get their bonus card, just a once a career wtf moment by the gk

I expected some shouts or such to me, or even to the gk but other than an isolated "wtf are u doing" from his defender, nothing
Let me be honest, I cant confirm the wall was far enough bk!

But no, not my responsibilty to affect the score
 
I know its not up to the referee to decide this but i have suggested that an uncontested drop ball the attacker kicks the ball back rather than the defender which usually happens.
 
Not your fault however awkward it is. You applied the laws correctly. As said above, I would have hoped that the attacking side would show a bit of sportsmanship and just give it back but there you go.

100% on your side. I can't believe somebody on here is advocating to create an offence to deliberately benefit one team and artificially and dishonestly affect the result of the game.
In sport, you need to be able to capitalise on your opponent's mistakes. This was an opponent's mistake. I don't see that attacking the goal here is any less 'sporting' then attacking from any other mistake (such as, the keeper miskicking the ball).

Totally diff to giving that dodgy corner, or taking your AR guess at a corner, and then finding a push in the box so fk to defender from the corner
Trying to invent a push in the wall or fabricate an in line of vision offside here would have been downright cheating and i would rather allow the goal than disallow one wrongly, regardless of how we got there


There is being street wise. And there is cheating. Be interesting to hear Yoda's take on, ok, he finds a non existent push and gives fk to defender then attacker shouts out "thats cheating ref".
Moral high ground anyone?
 
Oh get off your moral high horses....the pair of you are the worst offenders on here at making things up to suit your own interpretation of a situation.......

There’s always a push......whether you see or it....no different to giving a dodgy cnr/gk or guessing at a throw in and picking the option that suits you better.

So you invent a push and player calls you a cheat? Did you forget to address that point?

Guessing at a throw is one thing
Inventing a decision which is not there is another
When ball goes out for a throw, it factually has to be awarded to one of the two teams
If you are making up a push that is not there, thats cheating
