The Ref Stop

Diego Simeone - Athletico v Real Madrid

I mentioned it earlier in the thread. It's definitely not clear and obvious that it clearly moved.
And I have mentioned earlier as well that it is not clear and obvious to me that the standing foot even touched it.
On the UEFA slow mo video posted earlier on this thread, it is clear and obvious (if you have this available at the time in the VAR booth)

The Ref Stop
Disagree. The protocols allow the R to initiate a review. And the R needs to be certain that there was an offense before he wipes off a goal. He thought it probably was but wasn’t certain enough to call it. Asking VAR to review is the correct protocol.
Nor sure if I miss wrote it or you misread it.

Not disputing misapplied protocol. Disputing misusing VAR altogether. The referee has to make a decision and he did. But the expectation is that he makes the decision that he thinks is the correct decision. I don't think he did that. It os the concern raised on this forum many times. Referees knowingly relying on VAR to the extent that they would have made a different decision if they knew there is no VAR.

“I was the one who informed the VAR referees that there was a 99% chance that Alvarez touched the ball twice"

And I have a counter to this
"the R needs to be certain that there was an offense before he wipes off a goal."
The R needs to be certain of a goal before awarding it.
