Cup Final Appointments

So I’ve been appointed to my first ever county final in my 29 years of refereeing this season. I’m not gonna lie, it’s a youth final which I’ve not done many youth games this season, I’ll take it though. Had a semi though last 2 seasons, one in the middle and the other on the line, so must be doing something right

Makes sure family and friends go and take lots of pictures.

Top 5% of referees in our county get the finals and they hold a relatively good cup finals evening, inclusive meal and a good premier league referee guest speaker plus goody bag. No match fee though.

It is done on nominations from the leagues that you ref in.

I do still find the appointments slightly strange - I have a cup final for my county league in the middle with someone on my line yet I’m a 4th official to him for the county final.

That said - I’m not moaning I’m easy and just ref what’s put in front of me. I always said this about promotion as well - I’m too old now to suck up to people. I keep my administration and availability good and rarely pull out of fixtures, might have something to do with it.

Congratulations to all who have been appointed to finals. I was rather surprised yet delighted to receive an appointment to my first ever County final this season after not being appointed to any earlier round fixtures at all, I thought I might have been forgotten about! Not sure what to put the appointment down to but most likely a combination of how many matches I have been doing (an absolute boatload across various competitions), how I am doing on the promotion pathway, club marks/competition feedback and overall engagement with County.
