Score is 1-1 at this point in the 36th minute.

Home striker is about a yard or less off the goal line in possession of the ball, he knocks it to the right and pretty much has an open goal to tap the ball into.

Away keeper is on the floor, he realises he isn’t getting anywhere near the ball so he grabs the strikers ankle and pulls him to the ground.

I’ve went red for dogso no attempt to play the ball with a penalty restart.

Away team surround me, who all get told to go away and adapt captains only. They all think it’s not a penalty or a red.

Have I dropped a bollock with the red?

Based on what you've described, pen and red for me.
He has grabbed the legs to absolutely deny a goal (dogso) with no attempt at the ball. His sole action was to stop a goal.

Spot on. Downgrade to yellow if there was an attempt to play on the ball. No attempt to play the ball: dogso red and penalty restart.
