Hi everyone,

I’ve been using the Ref Stop card holder I received during my course about a year ago, but I’ve noticed some issues and was hoping for advice.

Both the yellow and red cards have developed black discolouration, which I believe is some sort of residue from being stored in the card holder. I also used high-quality B&D cards with this set, but unfortunately, they’ve also picked up black marks.

Additionally, I used the Ref Stop write-on card stickers during higher age group academy matches, but I found them very difficult to remove from the yellow card. This has left a sticky residue on the card, which has been frustrating to deal with.

Could anyone recommend products that work well together to avoid these issues? Ideally, I’m looking for cards, stickers, and a holder that are compatible and durable.

I have attached some images if whatever I am saying doesn’t make much sense!

Thank you for your help. Marcus

Perfect, thank you. Do you have a wallet you suggest, or do these cards not get discoloured at all? In which case, I could just continue using my current one.

Another question I have is that my CFA logo on my match shirt is fading with white residue appearing after washing. How do you guys ensure the quality of the patch remains? Thank you.

Any more help please let me know!

Wallets fall apart a lot and will cause the issur you had. Think every wallet I had did this. Best wallet I used was this one- https://www.thirdteam.com/products/...ojRA8OxOk3gnU9O6bQASjWT_qTowYCz4s3r2VqhJg2Um6

In terms of shirt, I noticed the badges were more prone to this when they seemingly changed the material. Other than washing at lower temperatures, I’m not sure.

I always used Velcro for shirt badges (mainly because I had to wear different badges for different competitions) - washed shirts without the badge, brushed the badge if necessary.

found this myself when removing write on stickers. Not too much of an issue as was simply being replaced with a new sticker but ive started just putting masking tape over the sticker. This saves me replacing the sticker everytime and also means any pen works as I found only power tanks worked before.

(Tape can be done neater. Will also buy brighter masking tape to match the card)

I use write on stickers with a black sharpie. I clean the write on stickers with a small spray of deodorant and a microfibre cloth. Works very well.

I do find that if I get the yellow card out I should just show it and not delay. So I also carry a match card which I keep with my yellow that I can write details on to follow correct process etc.

I don’t keep my cards in my wallet/ notebook, so don’t have this issue really. The A&H cards can’t really get discoloured because of the material (or the ones I have, anyway). I also use some from referee direct which have some marks on but it’s nothing that’s really noticeable as I keep them in the grey thing that they originally come in.

I don't keep my cards in a book / holder I have them loose in my pocket. Yellow in the front right and red in the back and they never seem to come out. (Well only when people have been naughty I mean).

I use these cards here then put these stickers here on them so I can write on them (I don't like pre-printed grids because when my hands are cold my writing is never fitting in the box)

That way I can just record number, offence, time and then I record anything else I need to in my notebook separately. (Although worth noting that if you're at a level where you don't have reliable team sheets then you need to take players name also).

Late to this one - apologies - but hopefully not so late to be resurrecting a dead thread.

I've used a waller until recently and this one has held up very well indeed (still in one piece and not split or frayed at all) - Ref Stuff Ref Wallet

However, it undoubtedly caused minor delays when issuing YCs etc so recently moved to the cards recommended by @Runner Ref (RefStore Write on Cards) - early days but good quality, less fiddly than a book so speeds up the process and the permanent Sharpie cleans up a treat with a little nail varnish remover.

What is people’s write on process.

I had feedback once that if I was going to get the yellow out I should just give it and not delay too much. Obviously that is not following the official process.

When I've had team sheets, I usually just confirm the name and number then flash whilst explaining/clarifying etc. When I haven't had team sheets, if it's just a standard card for a reckless challenge/red for DOGSO with no risk of confrontation etc then I'll write it on the white match card first to follow process then copy onto yellow/red when convenient (usually after I have shown the card). If I need to show the card quickly to either manage/diffuse potential confrontation or if it's a delaying the restart caution, then I will just flash and then confirm name. There are people with far more games under their belt than me though who can probably give a better idea. I've nearly always used write ons as I find them so much quicker and easier.
Edit: I keep a picture of what I've written for about a month after as well just in case there were to be an appeal against a red or questions about who was cautioned etc.

I'm not usually a wallet person, but in heavy rain they are a godsend. I'm sure most of us have been caught out by the rain and ended up pretty much unable to write. Earlier this season in the rain I went to pull out my match card and I left half of it in my pocket- lesson learned.

With team sheets, I take out the card and show it before then writing the players number, offence and time as he walks back in to position.
How long I take to show it is the only thing I vary depending on if I need to slow the game down, isolate and calm the situation or if it's a delaying the restart caution late in the game, I'll flash it very quickly. (or a range of other techniques between the 2)
