The Ref Stop

Benteke goal v Bournmouth

there is no devils advocate to be played though?

it was 'marginally' off ... I could have parked my 18t lorry between him and the Bournemouth defence ... he was so far in front of the defenders that he had started the 2nd half!

oh was it the ref's final call? he would NOT have over-ruled his AR on such a big game

There is no question of offside position, he is in one. The question must certainly be interference. The AR is not in a good position to judge that.

I stand by my belief, this is the refs call at the end of the day as he was looking at coutinho and saw the keepers reaction. I don't think it is overruling the AR in any way either; it's team work and they have comms kits. It is a quick word from each of them, flag up. Nobody is any the wiser and it in no ways compromises the AR.

I cannot not believe for one second that they did not clarify the decision over the comms. Beggars belief if they didn't.

In this situation as an AR you raise your flag and let the referee decide if he is interfering. The 2 pieces of information together help you reach the correct decision
