Retired with immediate effect! Bit of a shock 😲

Was the RDO in Cheshire when I was starting up and was very helpful when I saw switching counties back from uni and then a move away a few months later - top bloke, pretty decent ref too

The Ref Stop
Will leave a huge hole in the UEFA refereeing ranks as whilst Kavanagh has been promoted, you have to say out of our referees who got badges, who is next in line to get that promotion to do the CL games? Attwell having a FIFA badge seems a huge waste of time for me as he only does VAR and never actually gets appointed on the field(Salisbury does VAR aswell and does not have a badge), England I believe has barely had an European appointment and Jones has only done a couple of games. Barrott seems to be highly rated in terms of doing junior tournaments but has of yet not refereed a proper UEFA game yet. Hopefully the likes of Jones, England and Barrott can get more chances with UEFA this season and eventually make it to the elite group when Oliver calls it a day.

As for Taylor, a very good referee and one the old school refs who I feel can make the brave decision on SFP, something as we know is a general weakness among the refs who came in when VAR was introduce.

And Chelsea fans around the world breathe a huge sigh of relief.

On a serious note, until like 2022 (the Cucurella hair pull incident) every (or almost every) big Chelsea game he officiated had a very controversial decision given wrongly in favour of the opposition, but since then I think he did a lot better in Chelsea games (many Chelsea fans won't admit it), with the exception of the game against Bournemouth where the league card record was broken. In that game he wasn't necessarily bad against Chelsea, it was just a weird game with a lot of yellows.

16 years as a PL Referee, 13 years as a FIFA Referee & now aged 47, must all take its toll. On top of that, he had the unpleasant incident with Mourinho. Im sure he would have loved to have Refereed the WC final at some point, but it’s so random & impossible when your country is in the semi final mix, as well as other countries that could have a bearing, as occurred with Argentina. He can be very proud with all he has achieved & the way he has done it.

Class referee.

He came along to our basic training back in 2011 and he also ran an assistant referee training course I attended. Was a member of the alty refs society too.

A steady hand for the big games. Good luck in whatever is next Tayls.
