Do the SG referees still have an annual conference?

I know they used to have one over ten years ago, but is there still some sort of gathering/function for them?

If so what goes on at the event? I imagine there's some speakers and maybe some awards? Do they have after dinner entertainment? Maybe a karaoke session for those with a song in their heart?

Yep, there’s a conference.

Normally held at a hotel in Heathrow. Will be anyone from PL down to NL there.

You normally have a day of on pitch sessions. Last time I went, we went over to QPR’s training ground for it. Then second day is conference type of events. You get given a time to be at each event, as there’s too many to have everyone in at the same time. Although I was far too hungover to attend most of this and only made it to the last couple of hours. But shhhh 🤫 Then you get your mugshot done for the publicity stuff.

Evening before the final day there’s normally a bit of a do put on. You see some rather interesting stuff, shall we say.

The single national conference in Heathrow was binned when Howard took charge.

There are now 2 regional conferences that are effectively single day training events for all PGMOL officials.

What was the reason for getting rid? Budget cuts? Trying to look less frivolous in the eyes of the papers? It seems a shame as refs need to let their hair down too, those that have hair at least

I was speaking to some of my mates about this the other day. If you want to make it pro, you need to accept that you aren't allowed a decent hairline.

I have a chance then! I've a receding hairline, but I prefer to refer to it as receded, because it's not getting worse - it's been awful since I was a toddler. Maybe I should have known then that this is my destiny!

Got a few years on some of you lads... Take a look at the profile pic and weep..
Swear to you I had a full head of hair when I started.

Does that mean if a baby is born fully bald, they are the chosen one, destined to be the greatest ref of all time?
