Huge problems with VAR in this game. Bournemouth thought they had gone 2 up but there was a question as to whether the goal scorer had accidentally handled the ball. Was very difficult to tell, and they eventually went on decide it hadn't and then went to check offside. At that point the semi-automated offside technology decided to breakdown and they had to resort to drawing the lines manually. Whilst all of this was happening it appears comms between VAR and referee also failed, end result was a delay just short of 8 minutes before the goal was disallowed, and Sam Barrott had to get both managers together to explain what was happening. To be fair to them, the managers and coaching staff were having a laugh about it, but the fans weren't happy and vented their annoyance.

Away from VAR, Matheus Cunha imploded again and has landed himself in all kinds of problems. Got in a row with Milos Kerkez, clearly struck him in the face with a swinging arm, then when he got back up headbutted him. Rightly shown the red card, then fought with multiple people as they tried to get him down the tunnel, including an altercation with 4th official Rob Jones. You would have to assume he is going to be in a world of trouble, no spectacles stolen this time so he can't offer to buy a new pair to reduce his sentence.

If there’s any justice that will be a 5 game ban. 3 for the VC, an additional as it’s the second red and another for his behaviour when delaying leaving the field.

I heard conflicting reports that the technology has failed but when I hear that, I assume failed mechanically or did it just 'fail' in respect it could not make a decision because of the amount of players involved?

Either way, I think this incident could lead to it not being introduced in the PL until next season.

I'm also not liking this SOAT is not giving a graphic which shows it right in line and again we are seeing a graphic at an angle which we know can distort just how close a decision could be in reality.

Feels like it should probably be more than that to me. He clearly has an anger management issue and got off very lightly last time.

I’d meant to put in “at least” but don’t know where it went. But I agree. There’s a serious personality issue here.

My understanding is it failed completely, potentially related to the comms between VAR and match officials.

There are 30 cameras, but even then there will be occasions when an offside occurs not in line with one of them. Not sure if it is what you were referring to, but the lines showed in this game were manually drawn due to the failure.

Have to love this on the Premier League's SAOT FAW page ...

It was a combination of things, I don't think it failed...

The initial handball check wasn't immediately straightforward and took some time. Once cleared they looked at offside and semi automated offside (for some reason) can't be used in situations where the attacker is ahead of the ball (see city v Madrid last month). Drawing the lines the 'old fashioned way' was also complicated due to the closeness of this situation and it took 8 mins all in to sort.

Absolutely still a farce and 8 mins is a disgraceful delay.

Has anyone actually seen the offside lines?

I've only viewed highlights (and only on the phone) and it looked like he was behind the ball when it was headed back.

Here are the lines & a couple of stills which probably show offside was correct 🤷
