Advantage on DOGSO

Law 13. Types of free kick
Direct and indirect free kicks are awarded to the opposing team of a player,
substitute, substituted or sent-off player, or team official guilty of an offence.

Free Kicks are only awarded after offences.

Intentionally, or not, the law states that interfering with play or playing the ball after committing a red card offence is an offence. Otherwise, the restart could not be a free kick.
I don’t think there is any doubt that a linguistic parsing of the rules makes there be an offense here. (Though whether it is the original offense or the playing of the ball I think can be debated.) But I still don’t think that IFAB thought they were making a new offense of “playing the ball when the R has decided to send you off” saying when they wrote it. It’s kinda insane in the scenario where the player doesn’t even know he is going to be sent off. I remain in the camp of being fine with the TI restart in the real life scenario (which is the only one I have ever heard of where this provision has been at play).
