    Level 3/4 Pathway Choice

Whilst I understand the point you're making, I also think the club marking range is far too wild for it to bear any meaningful weight in promotion/reclassification decisions. There are clubs I go to where I know no matter what happens, I'm pretty much guaranteed 80 as a minimum, and others I go...

    Level 3/4 Pathway Choice

I was wondering, and would be great if anyone knew... I don't hate running the line, I'd rather do it than be 4th official, and if I don't ever progress as a referee I'm in no hurry to shut down the option to progress as AR... but.... If I did specialise... would I get more middles at step3/4...

    Man City v Arsenal

I don't necessarily dispute the first half, but it's not striking. Contact was made mutually, before Gabriel pushed his head forwards.

Brentford vs Fulham - Hair Pulling

I don't understand why this is happening so much currently. I think Bassey's reaction (or lack thereof) probably saved the need for VAR to further scrutinise it.

    Man City v Arsenal

I think, rightly or wrongly, what saved Gabriel was the fact both players went head to head, then Gabriel pushed his forwards making it more of a push with the head, than a headbutt as such. I think you're correct about Haaland saving him by not going down, but I don't hate a caution in that...

    Bayern v Real Madrid

It's one of the very few poor things a ref can do that I haven't ever done yet. Does that mean I've got it to come? 😧

How would you handle player calling the opposite club assistant 'cheat'?

I do always remind players also that it isn't a binary choice between the AR being correct and the AR cheating. Professional ARs get decisions wrong occasionally, so a an honest club AR trying their best is also entitled to do the same

Man United Vs Leeds - Hair Pulling

I’m not specifically referring to this example, just generally talking

    Extra time

Being discussed on another thread currently about when to end the game and not. Firstly... you may want to refer to it as added time, stoppage time or injury time, as extra time usually refers to the 30 mins extra played in some cup ties that are level, before moving on to penalties...

    Interfering with play?

If we determine that the player in an offside position has comitted an offside offence (i.e. made an obvious action that impacted a defender) then there is no way to play advantage from the push. One offence can't counter act the other, as the offside offence has still occured, so the options...

Man United Vs Leeds - Hair Pulling

With you... but then both stadium announcements stated the players were sent off for violent conduct!

Man United Vs Leeds - Hair Pulling

Agree, but this is peoples issue with it, because arguably both the Keane and Martinez red cards were arguably part of challenges.

Man United Vs Leeds - Hair Pulling

You seem to be skipping the grey area (well not skipping it, but combining it). For me, there should be a difference between a deliberate pull of someone's hair (when a player intends to pull another by the hair) and a situation where a player as part of a challenge attempts to grab a part of...

    Interfering with play?

But in the context of determining if a player is offside, any touch / play from the attacking team... it is irrelevant whether it is a touch or a play. (which I know you know, just clarifying for anyone who doesn't)

Man United Vs Leeds - Hair Pulling

I can't disagree with the majority of what you say, but I don't think it's entirely comparable to handball on the goal line. No player is at an advantage/ disadvantage for non-footballing reasons where as it does almost advantage players / teams with players with long hair, as it is more likely...

Man United Vs Leeds - Hair Pulling

I see this argument on here a lot and I can't get behind it, and I also don't think it was ever intended by the law makers. Pushing someone is a non footballing action so any force could be thought to be excessive, yet pushing someone confrontationally is accepted as a yellow card for...

Man United Vs Leeds - Hair Pulling

By definition, you still agree with my previous top statement, you'd just like it loosening slightly too ;) By instinctive, I mean if it's part of an attempt to gain balance by grabbing the opponent that ultimately accidentally grabs hair or similar. It's arguably still a deliberate action, but...

Man United Vs Leeds - Hair Pulling

I don't agree with the zero tolerance approach either. Deliberate premeditated hair pulling should have a zero tolerance approach, but instances like this shouldn't IMO. Appreciate the officials probably had nowhere to go, but my opinion of what football stakeholders generally want is that if...

    A&H International LOTG question

Absolutely correct, although I do struggle to picture a scenario where the is time for a supporter to run on the pitch and get the final touch to a ball already on its way in, but no opponent has time to prevent the ball going in.

    Goalkeeper Control 2025/26

I did notice this a couple of months back but didn't think too much of it. I don't think I will be changing the way I determine control, but yes, it was handy to be backed by law!
