Having watched the video is slow mo, and tried to pause it at exactly the right moment, it certainly does not look out of play to me!! I understand that the camera angle isn't ideal, and hopefully VAR had an angle down the line, but it wasn't a good look!

First one - he appears to be unsighted. You can see him trying to look around the defender in front of the one who handballs it... can't be guessing. Second one - looks like a clear penalty to me. Not mutual holding, as the Brighton player is showing by having his arms out wide...

Neither of my two local youth leagues appoint referees and leave it to the clubs to sort out each week. Therefore, I wondered how they appointed referees for their finals, and decided to email last season (having refereed on these leagues for about 10 seasons). I was duly appointed as Ref /...

Did you decide this was dissent (by action) or Delaying the restart? If dissent - don't forget the sin bin! 😉 This has caught me out before, and if you use it correctly - players will definitely not understand!

Whilst I agree with both comments made regarding safety comes first - at what stage does 'a delay' become too long? Say a GK and defender collide heads on the goal line and the striker is there to tap the ball in... there is no delay in allowing treatment and a goal is still scored. In the...

In this sort of situation, would you mention to the clubs beforehand that you're being 'observed' - and set the expectation with them that substitutions need to be done 'by the book'? Or do you think this would cause other problems during the match - with comments like "you're only booking him...

Given the expected position of the 4O, would it not be more likely that he has 'insisted' that there is an offside offence? Causing the AR to doubt themselves?? As you've all said, without the restart, it's hard to know...

The ban has been overturned 🤷‍♂️

But if we do that, it might just be the tip of the iceberg! Cos he might do it again!

I understand your point and as you say clearly a learning point after about 500 matches without this particular problem. I'm surprised that the CFA allowsd a schools league is allowed to operate completely openly, whilst some of the teams / schools in that league are unaffiliated. I would...

I was recently asked by a schools coach to referee a sixth form schools match in a league that I can view on the internet. Having had some disciplinary issues during the match - mass con with one red and two yellows, I went on to WGS to process the cards, only to find that neither team was...

No mention in the question of the ball even striking the defender's arm / hand... just that he made himself unnaturally bigger! Is this an offence now, as I'd be in serious trouble if it was!?

I think that it's been discussed before, but could football follow rugby's example in these instances and have the referee / 4th official wave the physio on to assess the player, whilst play continues. Obviously doesn't work if the player is close to play or in the middle of the penalty area...

And still Scotland manage to be at home already! 🤣

I knew a referee who got promoted from level 5 in Spain, but couldn't even say Please in Spanish! That's poor for four... 😉

@GraemeS and @RustyRef - I think I'm correct in saying that you two argue quite a lot on this forum... whilst you don't necessarily take threads off topic - it does get pretty repetitive and annoying... 🤷‍♂️ I know that I could just scroll on past, but some of the threads are initially quite...

Does anyone know what the UK sizing is like on the Diadora Brasil Clasico? Not had Diadora before, but they do look great...

Would it be allowable for youth league to add something to their own competition rules about the size of shin pads? I think most of us are concerned about youth players copying their heroes and wearing what we consider to be unsuitable micro shin pads, and the parents / coaches being too soft...

PT? Pub time? ;)
