    World Cup referee standards

I concur. Especially in England whereby over the past year or so since the arrival of Ross Joyce, much resource has been spent on development at levels 3 to 6 & at the elite levels, following the conversion to Pro Ref, the PL/EFL have provided further funds for Referee development.

    World Cup referee standards

Overall I agree with your comments, though my thoughts are that elite officials receive decent remuneration, but players are overpaid, albeit the paying public go to watch players & not Referees.

    US v Bosnia

So there could be two Presidents who are not likely to make it next time round, though the USA President would have served his maximum number of terms in office.

    US v Bosnia

So effectively, what you are saying is that Article 27 is the trump(ed) card!!!

    US v Bosnia

FIFA are not helping themselves with this decision & especially allowing what is essentially political interference.

    World Cup referee standards

I take your point, but that could be said about the teams involved. Are the 48 countries involved the best in the world, or is it that they just happened to get higher in their qualifying groups, which is slightly different! In any event, as Archer has correctly pointed out, Referee teams...

    World Cup referee standards

That’s a big statement to make saying FIFA is corrupt & is a word in my world that is banded about too often whether it be FIFA, FIFA Referees (or PL & Premier League Referees) & without any proof other than a below par performance or a strange decision, or in the case of FIFA (not in respect of...

    France v Paraguay

Can’t hide anyone at this level of football & nor indeed at any level of football. There must have been good reason for his appointment, but just not worked out on the day & as has been said, (extremely) likely to be on a plane home.

    CAN vs MAR

Time will tell with the remainder of the appointments in the tournament & with Anthony Taylor & his ARs having already received an appointment in the last 16.

    CAN vs MAR

Whilst MO initially placed himself between players to try & diffuse the situation once he quickly realised that things could further boil over he moved out of the way. Overall, I think he has done well.

    Portugal v Croatia

I agree to the latter in your final para.

    Portugal v Croatia

I don’t think AAR worked - imho they spent much of the time doing nothing or even duplicating the role of the AR.

    Bel v Sen

Oh yes - Senegal have history. That was the game I was trying to remember at the time I read the original comment from Big 😸but I was out with my wife so couldn’t do any digging at the time (would have at least got a dirty look & probably much worse 😆)! I will have to take on board that Big Cat...

    Bel v Sen

Although I can absolutely see where you are coming from the worse thing in the world to do is to walk off. The repercussions for them is likely to have been bad and for what - forefit the game etc.

    PGMO becomes Pro Ref

Basically yes imo, but I don’t think it’s just the 2nd half of the season, could be anytime - beginning, middle or end - it comes across as not dissimilar to L1’s, who can be promoted and in theory could move straight onto an EFL Championship game rather than starting off in National League...

    PGMO becomes Pro Ref

Have to say, i thought the name was fine as it was, but perhaps with the bad publicity officials have been receiving, especially on the PL, perhaps this was a good opportunity of a re-set & not just with the pathway. Time will tell if there have been any big positives from the re-set (or any...

    Germany vs Paraguay

You are correct with your comments, but the only way to stop what happened last season which there was far too much of is to adopt what has been happening in this World Cup from the outset - the time is now with the momentum & Pro Ref (no longer PGMOL from today it appears) will hopefully grab...

    Germany vs Paraguay

Very well described and agree with both. Shearer and Keane can say it was a soft foul as much as they want & it was, but it was also a deliberate action by the attacker to prevent the goalkeeper from being able to move to attempt to gain possession of the ball. As has also been pointed out, if...

    L7-6 promotion

Nothing wrong contacting your appointments officer to tell him you’ve re-registered for the new season etc etc & that you are available for the early games of the season etc (though I would suggest you are not overly pushy).

    Ecuador v Germany

Call me old fashioned, but I just don’t get it (why let a high boot go)! - though I haven’t actually seen this particular incident.
