Deal with it like most things you hear on a football pitch, if it is not obvious that something is indeed wrong with the game, take it with a massive pinch of salt (ie ignore it) unless of course you believe this player is actually having a dig at your ability as a ref, which needs a bit more...

Agree with the above, but would add that If a team is collecting a lot of dissent cautions, a canny opponent will give a comment like that just to egg you on into more cautions and possibly a red. That sort of comment is in the same category as "he can't talk to you lik that ref!" So could also...

The single easiest fix in becoming a referee is boosting fitness. Imagine the fast break, ball hoofed quickly down field, strongly contested challenge in the far penalty area, both teams turn as if to strongly claim for a penalty/defensive ball, as they turn there you are standing right behind...

I had this Saturday. He was marked on the team sheet as "00". I asked what that meant and they said they had lost a shirt and the shirt he had did not have a number. He was the only player on that team without a number of his shirt... game on!

Don't forget - Enjoy the experience - ok, you have read some experiences about tough first matches (due to very badly behaved teams by the way), but there will be significantly more tales of funny/positive/fun first games!! First season (or so) is all about learning the trade. :)
