    Mark Noble!

The two other spectators actually ran to Zabaletta and (I think) Collins and these 2 remained calm. Noble ran towards the spectator and threw him to the ground. This should have been a red card. I'm with @ HarryD here, send him off and if thinks go pear shaped get all the players back in the...

    East Lancs Road Derby

This is the kind of comment a TV pundit would say. The referee DID make a decision; no penalty! You're right that it's a tough one to spot in real time but there are 3 options, penalty, free kick to defence or no foul. They're all a decision.

Bad habit - I need some help!

You're right about keeping moving and getting to the corner flag quickly but I wouldn't advise going behind the goal line. Angles are not our friends. On the goal line is the only place to make an accurate goal/no goal or ball in/out decision.

    Level 5 Secured :)

Well done pal. Are you going to the curry night on 12th March? Good to see you back on here.

    Pass-backs

No, not at all. But I'm the referee not the coach.

    Throw in Signals

Same for me even after all these years! For the first few decisions of the second half I usually shout "red ball" (or whatever colour) before I signal. It gives me a moment to think which way reds are kicking.

    Pass-backs

If they shout "can he pick it up" I will answer yes or no. If I'm not asked, then I don't say anything.

    Playing advantage

Yes, it was the right thing. This is exactly how you do it.

    Dale v Spuds

Well, yes, it was a penalty. There was a trip on his standing foot. I know why you're asking though; he planted his other foot on the floor to launch himself into a theatrical reactionary dive but it was a penalty. It is time this over reaction (simulation) is eradicated from the game though.

A decision we might not see in England?

Go on. What exactly has the white shirt player done wrong here?

    Another cold one this evening

Just keep warm and make sure you can see everything. I'm staying in though!

    Mansfield v Cheltenham

j Great point. I have used the quick card on occasions. I remember on a 4-5 assessment when a striker landed his second punch on the opposing keeper, I was first there with the red card and on that day it worked. The rest of the players accepted it and the striker walked. The assessor hated...

Kicking the ball to a player's head while in play

Yes it is. The white player who pushed the blue player to the ground is the same one who kicked the ball. I've watched it several times and am in no doubt he knew what he was doing. I'm going red with this.

    Bass Ackwards

I don't really like running "right backs" but if that's what the referee wants then you have to adapt. I was lucky to be appointed to a contrib play off semi final a few years back and was gutted when the ref said we were running right backs. Never mind, just got on with it.

    Rams v Bristol

Penalty, yes. However, the contact with his ankle wouldn't have propelled his body upwards and caused both his arms to reach for the sky so I can understand why the referee didn't go with the penalty.

    Non-driving referees

I remember going out with a level 3 who didn't drive a few seasons ago. I think the other assistant met him at a train station then drove 40 miles to the ground!

    Trousers..

No! No! No! I only ever put gloves on once. It was for the second half of a contrib night game in West Yorkshire and @ASM was the referee. The other assistant also put his gloves on for the first time ever. It was bloody cold! Strong wind, horizontal rain and I ended up face down in the...

    0-0 Draws

In 15 years as a referee I've never been involved in a 0-0 game. Never had one as a player either; mind you, we were usually 4-0 down by half time on a good day!

    Reporting Cards

I'll admit it. I failed to submit 2 or 3 cautions in my early days. All of these were for my eldest son and the reason I didn't submit them was because I would have ended up paying the fines myself! My son ended up as a really good level 4 referee but was a nightmare as a player!

Open Age Funniest thing I heard this weekend

Please tell me you did indeed use the word "hence" when speaking to a player. I have to try that one day. ha ha.
