    Abused as assistant

Question: Would your response change if it was not a club AR and it was a match with certified ARs? Thanks.

    First 11v11 game

Here in Northern Virginia at least, I'm not sure of other states, time for High School games is kept on the scoreboard until the last 2 minutes. The scoreboard clock stops with 2 minutes left and an announcement is made that "Time is now being kept on the field."

    Concussion

I had the same question a few years ago and I contacted the head of refereeing in my state of Virginia. He said that we can utilize Law 5.3 as stated above... "stops play if a player is seriously injured and ensures that the player is removed from the field of play." and if the coach puts...

Assisting the Center Referee on Calls

Thanks. As for "checking with the AR"...I didn't mean to imply that the center referee should run over to the AR and have a conversation, but just eye contact where maybe the AR can give a signal to assist. But I agree and I posted this for confirmation that the AR should not force himself into...

Assisting the Center Referee on Calls

Thank you for the reply. Yes, 100% correct that once a referee blows the whistle and calls a foul, that's over and done with. I guess what I was more talking about are calls that the center referee does not make....or makes but gets wrong such as corner vs goal kicks, throw in direction, etc...

Assisting the Center Referee on Calls

Hello, so just to start off, I'm in the US and we do not use club assistant referees in any of the leagues I referee in. Everyone is a certified referee. And more often than not, we do a set of games and we rotate between AR and center referee. My point there is that the referee crew should be...

    Contentious goal kick (AR)

I always thought that a goal kick should be signaled with the left hand and corners and offside with the right. Sometimes slopping corner signals and sloppy goal kick signals are hard to differentiate as well. This would solve it but, oh well.

    Notts County

Question...there are a few posts here about it not being "quick" enough; therefore, it should be ceremonial. Why does it have to be "quick"? If I remember correctly, the only time that a free kick has to be quick is if the referee is showing a card.

Restart After Noticing Too Many Players on the Field after a Goal is Scored

Law 3 states...If, after a goal is scored, the referee realises, before play restarts, that an extra person was on the field of play when the goal was scored: the referee must disallow the goal if the extra person was: a player, substitute, substituted player, sent-off player or team official...

    Micro shin pads

I'm in the US. I asked 5 of my refereeing buddies if they'd allow these and they all gave an emphatic "No". My son wants a pair though! I'm torn.

    DOGSO

So I was watching the highlights of the Hartlepool v Northhampton Town match from another thread about the legitimacy of the corner kick at 1:30. If you watch at 0:59. This is a similar situation as I was talking about in my original post. So the forward received the ball. The centerback got in...

    DOGSO

    Good stuff. Thanks.

    DOGSO

Thank you on such a quick response. I realize speed of play isn't a factor in the Laws specifically, but after thinking about it...I think the speed of the play is correlated with the distance between the offence and the goal. So if an attacker is on a breakaway and gets dragged down 20 yards...

    DOGSO

So when I think of DOGSO, I think of break aways with the attacker going forward at full speed and the 2nd to last defender fouling from the side or behind also running at pretty much full speed....something like that. However, yesterday, I had a situation where the attacking center forward...

Can you be offside in your own half

I believe my question goes along with this discussion so I didn't create a new thread....Player A is in an offside position when his teammate plays the ball forward to him. He comes back to receive the ball and receives it onside. This is an offside offense as previously discussed and the...

    Slide Tackling

This was from a Q and A on http://www.askasoccerreferee.com/...I'm wondering if others agrees with this. I've never heard of using the 3 criteria discussed to determine foul, foul and card, or nothing. Especially the speed of the slide...are their really slow slides? Does this do a good job...

Are Shin Guards required for KFTM?

I was watching the U17 Puerto Rico / Costa Rica match on Sunday and it went to KFTM. Not many players were wearing their shin guards to take the kick. Are shin guards required for KFTM?

Thoughts on this, causing some debate.

This is why I don't center referee more competitive games. I just stay with very young kids because I don't want to be in position to make this call in a competitive game. I would have thought everyone would be in agreement that it wasn't a foul since he got the ball and then the player...

    I must be stupid.

Geez. Of course. I read that wrong. Thank you!

    I must be stupid.

The confusion is...Section 7 says that goal IS awarded. ???
