Advice on some obscure match incidents

Thanks - I did highlight to the team complaining, they should put the ball out, and he would get the opportunity to sort his footware out

Advice on some obscure match incidents

Hi, Only on about game 10 as a new referee, and had a number of more obscure events in a U16 game yesterday. I was hoping if you could confirm or advise if I got them right from some more experienced refs: Player fairly tackles another player, but loses boot in the process. Team mates...

    Advice on Fouls

Just an update and thanks from everyones feedback. I've been standing back from play slightly, which has given me a greater field of vision on the wider game (and off ball instances). This has helped massively. I've also noticed I am covering less overall distance (4 versus 5 miles on...

    Player Names

Hi, I just qualified at the end of last season. I hoping I can get some advice on recording cards and now sin bins. I‘ve struggled in capturing players names, as team sheets don’t seem to exist in the leagues I’ve done! Has anyone got a good system for capturing names (quickly) when...

    Advice on Fouls

Thanks @socal lurker On reflection, nether team were complaining, about either fouls being given, or not being given. So maybe he was just moaning!

Thanks @one Keen to next game underway, so I can put the advice into practice!

    Advice on Fouls

No, it's a good point, and the reason I highlighted; as I wondered if this was the difference on 'missing' the fouls. What is the opinion on a tackle, which if it's not careless, reckless or using excessive force, but strong/forceful. I couldn't see a reason to give against the LOTG, but...

    Advice on Fouls

You're completely right @Big Cat I've have spent too much time thinking about it, and wondering what I missed! The feedback has been excellent, as I now have some great recommendations to feed into my next game.

    Advice on Fouls

Thanks @Kes. I am sadly in my late 40s! I know the manager as that of my eldest sons football team, and he needed a ref for a friendly. You're absolutely right about the LOTG, as I had to clarify the new GK rule during the game to the managers! I always looking to improve, which is why I...

    Advice on Fouls

Thanks again @one that helps and does give me the confidence. You're right, it is a learning process, and a manager will have a bias/difference point of view. Also, its good to be realistic that a manager will have high expectations, and I need to set about improving on each game.

    Advice on Fouls

Thanks @one I have to admit, part of me felt deflated on the feedback. I felt even with knowing I had room for improvement, the game had gone well. So the feedback was good to get, but left me thinking "I called every foul I saw, but clearly missed some, but I don't know what I missed...

    Advice on Fouls

Thanks all. I think it's down to my positioning, and trying to still stay close to the action. I need to be far enough away that I have a wider view, so I will look to adjust my positioning at the next game.

    Advice on Fouls

Hi, I am still a new referee (in my view!) having only qualified at the end of last season. I've done about 10 games so far. This evening I refereed a U16 Friendly. Game went well, a couple of areas I spotted for improvement next time. I know the home manager, thus the reason to be...

    Offside or Goalkick?

Thanks again Alex, good for confidence in future. Agreed, I didn't want to undermine his authority. Also the same as you highlighted a there was little disadvantage from the goal kick versus the indirect free kick.

    Offside or Goalkick?

Thanks Alex. They were a good 2m offside (slow returning from a previous attack). The striker did touch the ball, but his control was poor and it went out over the goal line. A defender had caught up with the striker at the point of touching the ball, and in fairness the pressure of a...

    Offside or Goalkick?

Hi, I just wanted to get some feedback, to help with games in the future. Last night I was a Club Lineman’s in a friendly game. During the match, ball comes over to a striker who is offside. I wait until he becomes active, and then flag offside. He became active by trying to control the pass...

AR Offside - When to Flag?

Thanks @Peter Grove for pointing out the page in the LotG, as I've been searching for some 'official' guidance. When I am a Club Linesman, I am usually asked for flag for ball out of play and offsides. I do declare I am (recently) qualified to the assigned ref, and hopefully give some...

AR Offside - When to Flag?

Hi, Definitely, a newbie AR question. As a Busmans Holiday, I always get the Club Linesman role, when I watch my sons play, based on "your qualified to do this". Anyway, I was recommended on the course to flag when it was inevitable that an offside player would get to the ball, even before...
