Penalty Appeal - Player Trip no Tackle

Hi, Maybe a newbie question, but happened in fixture yesterday. Striker dribbles into the box, turns left, sees defender, turns right and catches another defender who was just waiting there. I waved play-on, as I felt the defender he caught had no choice in the matter (there was no move...

Cash or Not for match fees?

Hi, Interested on people thoughts around COVID and the recommendations on not collecting cash. All the fixtures I've done this season (including friendlies) have been cash. However the FA guidance to use electronic bank transfer seems flawed, as the club are: not going to pay in advance...

    Dissent from CAR

Thanks. If they were parent, I guess you can’t issue a card, unless to the manager?

    Dissent from CAR

Hi, What would be the advice for handling dissent from a Club Assistant Referee? Can I issue them with a card and/or ask for them to be replaced? Thanks Chris

Sin Bins - are you finding they help?

As a referee only one year in, I think they work well. It’s helped with the stepped approach (“anymore and your in the sin bin”). However when you’ve got someone, or even multiple players in, the timing (taking into account stoppages) can be a nightmare!

    Smart Watch Match Reporting

I’ve developed the hReferee App in the Garmin store. It means I can get it to fit my needs. I added a Sin Bin timer over the summer. Also with Garmin, you can add information to the recording file, including scores and cautions.

First Game - in the deep end

I’ve only done about 40 games, and still get nervous before. In fact, the game I was most relaxed about, was the most difficult! Also, youth games can be tricky with parents as well, so don’t look at it, as a tough game. You’re uncle will be great moral support.

    Problem with Manager

Thanks all, appreciated. Yes, we were briefed on the WGS during the course, and I have previously logged in. It is a real shame, as the kids wanted to play and the 3G pitch came available. I was hardly going to say no to refereeing given the circumstances. I gave 2 penalties, both clear cut...

    Problem with Manager

Hi, Sorry, this is probably not as rare as I think, but in my first season, today was my first occurrence. My sons U14 teams game was called off, however it was able to still go ahead at the last minute as a nearby 3G pitch was available. However the referee was no longer available, so they...

Hand versus Arm and Shoulder Ball

Hi, Had some incidents over the weekend in a single game, where I gave and didn't give handball, and would like some advice/clarification (as still a newbie). The first offence, the ball for the player did unfortunately bounce-up, but he had his arms outstretched, and consequently played the...

    Accidentally standing on foot

Yes, very similar. The ball was more on the ground, but was keen on some expert advice.

    Accidentally standing on foot

I think you're right, but this is where I am struggling on improving my newbie skills. I am struggling to separate out these fouls, and felt this was a good example from my last game. If Player A went for the ball, and happened to stand on Player B's foot who went to tackle, I feel at odds to...

    Accidentally standing on foot

Thanks. I wasn't sure as in fairness the foot wasn't there when the player went for the ball, so it wasn't careless, but you could say he should have guessed it would be there, however that would stop anybody tackling :-)

    Accidentally standing on foot

Hi, Sorry if this is a daft question, if when two players go for the ball, one player accidentally stands on the others foot, DFK, or just part of the challenge? Cheers Chris

    Feedback on two issues/errors

Thanks Brian, I am keen to improve, so didn't want to just sit on the events without getting advice for improving next time. I like @Mintyref idea to pause before issuing the call, as it would have seen the players reset back for a goal kick.

    Feedback on two issues/errors

Hi, Only now 15 games into refereeing, and 10 since qualifying in April this year. Had a U16 game, which I think I made two errors! I would be keen for some experienced feedback: Ball comes over to edge of box and goal line, I am thinking initially this is a goal kick. However I am...
