    How to stay consistent

Ha! A broke clock is right twice a day, yeah?

    Careless or Reckless

Those would be the times that your gut feeling is correct according to the "technicalities".

    A Match I did

Yeah they did accept it which, to be fair, is rare but in this case I had a good relationship with the players (have seen them plenty of times) and they knew it was pretty obvious. Canadian French is terrible. I can assure you that I don't sound like when I speak French.

Refereeing has ruined football for me

It comes full circle. Eventually, you'll end up appreciating it even more and on a more refined level because of refereeing.

    A Match I did

And another penalty! 1:37:00 into the video. Another handball.

    A Match I did

At 27 minutes, there is a no-foul decision I made that was somewhat contentious (well, at least the crowd in the stands shouted for it). My thinking on the play was that the player had carried the ball into pressure, found herself with no options going forward and no time to turn around so she...

Yeah but he seems to be suggesting that if the ball doesn't go out very far, he would still give the pen.

    A Match I did

If you have some free time, you can watch a match I refereed. It's a University women's match. I'm re-watching now and I'll post some times that are some significant incidents. At 19:45 (player time, not match time), I call a penalty. http://live.streamit.ca/?player=51&eventid=33611

    Michael Oliver (Arsenal vs Tottenham)

It is possible that the FA or the referee himself informed the players ahead of the match that any interaction with the opposing team fans would be considered to be excessive celebration in light of a goal and, therefore, this happened. Although you are right, under normal circumstances that is...

    Penalties In A Single Match

I had three in my game on Saturday: two handballs (one for each team) and a foul. All three were pretty obvious but didn't stop the players arguing them. Apparently, when you move your hands and arms in front of your chest instead of chesting the ball down, that's okay

Junior/Youth Abuse from parents, coaches, players and linesmen

There is a difference, of course, between questioning your decision and being abusive.

    Junior/Youth ADVICE PLEASE!

Put the reds in as that's the decision you made on the day and should stand by it but it definitely sounds too harsh. Unless there's a proper strike or an attempt thereof, it sounds like cautions and a talking to are in order.

What do you mean "that far"? If it's out at all, it cannot be a foul. Could have literally only just crossed the line.

Your "go to" phrases that you always use

Aled, you neither look old enough to buy your own beer nor to referee anyone who can! How does that work for you?

    Lower Back

Honestly, I've considered it for the first time. I've done another couple of uni matches on the week-end and my back and hamstrings are sore as you like right now.

Sure its been asked before, but cant find a thread

Pen is impossible, caution or sending off is still on the table.

    Penalty shoot out

*cough* kicks from the penalty mark *cough* and yes, it's the ref's choice which side you take the kicks from. The coin toss allows the winning captain to choose whether or not to kick first.

    WSL - Liverpool v Birmingham

    Poor form from the referee.
  19. Ryan Owens

    Careless or Reckless

While that works to a certain extent, it does not offer as much consistency between referees as asking yourself the questions located in the above document does.

    Struggle to sleep after games

I didn't say it didn't require your full attention; it just isn't as important as some others you have down the pipe.
