If you are referring to primary age and below (U12) then in my experience they almost exclusively have an internal ref, qualified or not. Cheaper that way. I do all of the games for the school where I work.

Beezer, in hindsight perhaps a caution for the 'keeper would have sufficed despite it clearly being DOGSO. Perhaps my inexperience showing there. I'm chalking today down as a tough game for my 5th ever one!

I learnt today that it is ok for a 'keeper to catch the ball outside of his area as long as he 'thought he was inside the area'.

It was actually 7-1 by this point, which made it even more of a strange thing to say.
