Open Age The moment a player uses foul and abusive and you know you've got them

Until you get to level 3 here in England you will be working with assistants of all levels, i have had level 5's who have ran 200 lines and level 7's running their first. Sorry but i wouldn't dream of dispensing of his or her services, you adapt your game accordingly if need be.

Open Age The moment a player uses foul and abusive and you know you've got them

I cant disagree with anything @JamesL has written here. The decision is down to the referee on the advice of the assistant. I always say to my assistants, give me the facts and i will decide the sanction based on the facts you have given me. This cuts out the following scenario: AR what have...

    Player pole-axed - fairly?

It is worrying that ANY referee could think that this is not a foul. He has won the ball, so what? You sound like a player, as @GraemeS and @WilliamD have said winning the ball is irrelevant! It is reckless at best, the force he hits him with would make me seriously consider SFP or even Violent...

    Player pole-axed - fairly?

If that's not a foul then i don't know what is? Foul and a minimum of a caution all day long.

    RC in a friendly

Always remember when you are refereeing any game that you don't know who is watching. Referee to the laws of the game and there can never be any comeback on you whatsoever. I did a friendly last year and noticed a senior member of the FA's refereeing department sat in the stand, turns out his...

Open Age Stupid things players say #9625

As an assistant last week, goalkeeper takes a goal kick and rolls it all of 5 yards to a defender stood in the box. My flag goes up, obviously. Cue the 100 or so fans in the stand behind, with shouts like, "F**k off liner, its only a friendly. Let them get on with it you bald pr**k". Deeply...

    Biggest game you've ever done?

Last week i did the middle for Witton Albion (Evostick) v Chester (National League) and last night i ran the line for Stockport County (National North) v Bolton (Championship) and Bolton had 7, 1st team players in the first 11!! Brilliant experience.

England v Spain - Womens Euros

Decided to sit and watch this last night and their were a few strange decisions to say the least. England scored a second goal after 5/6 minutes that was deemed offside, it was one of those where you saw it real time and thought it was wrong. An then there was this, the penalty that was the...

    Sin Bin - Guinea pigs

This has to be one of the most ridiculous things i have ever seen in refereeing! How the hell are you supposed to get your head around all that. They will have referee's issuing a caution and then puling this out of their pocket to decide the sanction. I am lost for words!!

    Coach / CORE

No you won't and will need to be close to the top but not close enough for promotion to 3 really to be selected. It is designed for ref's that are sort of on the cusp of promotion and the FA believe they can get up with coaches help.

    Coach / CORE

Robert, your RDO is the only person that can really help with this. The CORE programme started last season, i would be very surprised if your RDO wasnt aware of this. At levels 7-5 then it goes off County nominations, level 4 and up is selected by the FA based on merit table positions.

    Paris World Cup 2017

So this year a colleague and i decided to embark on our first tournament and chose the Paris World Games. I thought i would share my experience with you all. We arrived late on Thursday 8th July after a 3 hour delay at Manchester Airport, we therefore missed the introduction meeting, but we...

    Attracting new members...

I am a member of a very pro-active RA and i think we are the third biggest in the country, we have over 120 members and i would say we have around 40% of these regularly attending the meetings and more depending on what we do. We have a competition every month on LOTG there are three questions...
