    City Vs The Champions then

Rugby has used TMO for close to (or more than) two decades. Hockey has had it for one and a half decades. The roles of the on-field officials has only been strengthened in both sports. Talking as if VAR will replace referees at all, let alone in ten years, is on par with Chicken Little's...

    City Vs The Champions then

If you're okay with the phrase ITOOTR existing, your objection is already irrelevant. If you're not okay with it, you have far bigger problems than whether two passes counts as several.

    Sheffield United - Tottenham

It's almost as if they think referees aren't stupid and can make decisions based on understanding the game combined with looking at the play in context. Judging from many of the posts in recent threads, I'm more and more convinced that this is not true at all, and footballers (whether they kick...

    Jurgen vs Roy

EPL is not football, it's football-based entertainment. The players are there to act a part, as are the officials, and it's close enough to the real high-level thing that the skills are transferable, but the whole thing is about making money for the clubs and the organisers. The sooner this is...

    Showing immediately the referee signal

For me calling it is about communication of the decision, it pre-empts the arguments when someone has assumed it's theirs and didn't look. Always confirm with the signal, to avoid coathangers with your AR as well.

    Sin bins

How can a player show dissent before the game has started? They disagree with whether the lines are visible enough to play on, they don't think your coin toss landed clearly as heads?

    Showing immediately the referee signal

Definitely the colour of the team who should have the ball next, optionally the colour of who last played it. For example, "White throw" "Green's ball" "Off Blue, Yellow ball" "Black put it out, Red throw"

    Wanna be ref

While I don't like to discourage the enthusiasm, I think taking time to think about games in between and let the major thoughts resolve and settle in the mind is just as important for good development. Making a mistake five times a week and then realising afterwards, is not as helpful as...

    Heads up I guess...

When the majority of the discussion and conversation is centred around one country's football, it's definitely off-putting, or implied that other countries probably won't be taken as seriously or have specific expertise available. The forum is also set up with a very specific labelling system...

    Law change you would make?

The exact width of the foci will only affect the height of the ellipse and the rope length gives the width, it's slightly more straightforward to say "X distance out from the goalposts with rope of length Y" is all. Probably would be simpler to round the numbers at 14 yards each side of centre...

    Law change you would make?

It seems weird, but the ellipse would be easier. Just need a stick in the ground nine yards out from each goalpost, make a loop of rope the right size, and as long as the loop is pulled tight between the sticks and your marker, it's perfect.

    Pandemic law modifications

Playing the game at all. Not sure why speculation on how to do something stupid just to keep up with the Joneses makes any sense. Football games can't work as long as social distancing is required. Training can only work under the lightest restrictions. Getting around that, you may as well go...

Dutch Referee Blog - Week 28 Laws of the Game Quiz 2019-2020

I'd be even more surprised to find where anybody in this thread except you has mentioned that two cautions is anything other than dismissal, but I expect I'll be waiting a long time.

Dutch Referee Blog - Week 28 Laws of the Game Quiz 2019-2020

It hasn't left the six yard box, so the goal kick is taken again. The attacker was still inside the box, so he gets cautioned and it's taken again. If the sub has stepped onto the field, the sub has happened and you can't caution them. The sub is allowed to walk off at halfway. The manager is...

Dutch Referee Blog - Week 28 Laws of the Game Quiz 2019-2020

This gives context for why the incident occurs, and is a factor that many referees may reasonably think to consider, whether or not it is correct to consider it. Again, many referees are of the belief that the substitution occurs at this time. It is reasonable to mention this in light of...

    Law change you would make?

Fair enough. It makes perfect sense to use the circle in hockey because you can't score from outside it, whereas football allows a goal from anywhere by (almost) anything. Even if it was limited to the attacking half, it would make far more sense than some arbitrary box.

    Law change you would make?

Hockey allows only getting a PC inside the attacking quarter, and only getting a PS inside the circle, so there's almost no difference from what football currently does in terms of awarding kicks. If however, the laws had PK for all DOGSO regardless of location, you'd get the same result of...

    Law change you would make?

It works in rugby because the game is much more about territory - getting ten metres for free is a massive gain. In football, ten metres forward or backward doesn't usually mean a lot, and can make things worse if the team is already in a good position. Maybe "ten metres directly towards the...

    Law change you would make?

It's almost as if the problem comes from people not actually following LOTG regardless of what's written in them. Surely adding two more laws and rewriting five will change that!

How your fitness has changed as a result of Covid-19

You make more correct decisions because you see what actually happened. You see what actually happened because you're in the best position. You're in the best position because you move to it quickly enough. You move quickly enough because you're physically fit. Being physical fit is not a...
