I just stop play. Let the two or three who leave get replaced. Take zero notice as long as say. 9 are back on for 9v9. Blow to carry on with throw in, goal kick etc. My team I coach has squad of 13 for 9 a side. So 4 subs. We sub on 20 and 40 mins. No more. Equal playing time over the course...

    New 2 games in

5th match yesterday. Filed them all online and now just wait for the half day session to become level 7. Things I have learned. Well yesterday’s match. U11. Good kids. Respected every decision. I had a coin this time. Late tackle went in. Should have pulled out a YC but a stern talk to warn...

    Double headers

Ah. I see. Yeah so a little bit like kids tournaments. Quick turn around of matches with a % of time in comparison to a usual match for that age group. 👍

    Double headers

Is this OA football? I was sure Kids had a time limit to total minutes allowed per day for football. Or I may of read that wrong.

Coach Rory and the intro to ref abuse policy.

I follow this sub on YouTube for youth football. Thought I would share a new policy being introduced in a few months over there and the penalties for any kind of inappropriate behaviour.

Has anyone done referee course recently?

You will probably pop there for two hours and be shown videos and scenarios you already went through online. A refresher so to speak. Then a follow up. Mine was a Saturday 9-4 with the emphasis on positioning. Scenarios and laws of the game. Whistle influence. Attire. Signal strength for...

    4th match. First 11 a side.

I wanted the Lino to indicate throw in and blatant offside calls only. I mean it isn’t difficult to flag for who kicked it out if their back is to me at the time. Seemed that was far too much to ask. Admittedly it created me giving the wrong decision as I had waited for a team to just grab...

Question about fouls inside the box.

Ok one more. Say I award a corner. Ball comes in and goal is scored. I disallowed the goal as I see the keeper is blocked and unable to carry out a save with sufficient freedom to do so. I award a free kick and the attacking team go insane. Asking what that was for. Surrounding me etc. Do...

Question about fouls inside the box.

That’s where my head was battered. I was reading it as the penalty area and not as the 6 yard box. It’s late. I need a rest. Thanks for the swift reply to my daft question

Question about fouls inside the box.

I have read through the laws of the game a few times but this still doesn’t make sense. So the ball being placed parallel to the goal line on the pen box line when there is an infringement in the box for the attacking team. So if say 6 yards in the box the keeper picks it up. Do I pull the...

    4th match. First 11 a side.

I join you. Had to go back to the car on my second game. All things I will look back on and laugh at hopefully

    Mindset / psychology advice

As a coach and a new ref (1 more for my 5) I will be shaking every single refs hand. Great game or bad game and no matter how young or old because this is the most daunting job in the world IMHO. It’s Tuesday evening and I’m still going over that 11 a side match from Sunday morning. I can’t...

Will slam a coin in my wallet right now.

    Help with this one please

Probably why I’m reading through this thread that is pages and pages long whilst writing tips down in a notebook.

    Assaulted by U12 player...

I see this is old. But in all seriousness here. Coaching that lad week in week out would have shown at least some signs he was having a few issues. As a coach myself. I know the ins and outs of every one of my squad. Can spend ten mins with them and notice something wrong. Transparency is...

    Under 8's

Watched my son at that level and the best refs always praised them with kind words for good play and explained to them when they made mistakes. While letting the game flow.

    4th match. First 11 a side.

Thanks for that. I’m going to ask in here instead of starting a new thread. 2 players outside the box. You spot them BOTH pulling each others shirts. Who on earth gets the foul?

    Training Plan

Just adding my routine. Mondays 5k in a green HR zone. Tuesdays stride repeats. Usually 10min light jog with 5 min light jog warm up. Then 20 second sprint with 45 second recover at low jog pace. Repeat x 10. 10 min light jog with 5 min light cooldown optional. Wednesday football training...

    4th match. First 11 a side.

I hated enjoying it if that makes any sense at all. I don’t enjoy discipline. Maybe why I let the game flow. Could be time to start understanding that the ref is pretty much the gaffa on the field.
