Hello, I’m new to all this - I’m doing my FA refereeing course tonight for the first time, and I’m just curious what to expect? What happens in the course, what can I expect to do in the classroom? What happens when it comes to doing the practical bit? Bit nervous so was hoping you guys could settle me by explaining it a bit. Thank you in advance!

Hopefully you will have already completed the online laws of the game modules and exam, and completed any Child Protection modules?
On the course the aim is to prepare you in practical terms, so the sessions include positioning, management of offences, signals, Assistant Referee involvement, recognition of rising match temperature, etc., and advice about getting appointments as a referee, reporting misconduct, etc.
Take a notebook and pen, plus suitable clothing for classroom and outdoor activities.
Ask questions if unsure - if you don't know, the other course members won't either.
Enjoy the course.

You will probably pop there for two hours and be shown videos and scenarios you already went through online. A refresher so to speak.

Then a follow up. Mine was a Saturday 9-4 with the emphasis on positioning. Scenarios and laws of the game. Whistle influence. Attire. Signal strength for certain scenarios.
Then a few scenarios working as a team to distinguish how you would deal with them on a process driven type analysis.

Few scenarios outside on the pitch with fouls and ways you would deal with them. Taking turns.

A course where you run and flag for offside. Run past and call play on. Then run and point to pen spot. Then an attacking foul.

You get flags and a whistle. Also a patch for a jersey. A wallet with cards and all the links to LOTG and link to wholegame app.

IMHO. It prepares you very well for the role. But nothing prepares you better than an actual match.

This is really helpful. Thank you! Have to drive for nearly 2 hours to get to the course so hoping it’s worth it :D
