    Liverpool vs Chelsea

Great performance by Atwell. Should have cautioned Elliott for inflaming the melee situation though. I was yelling at the screen before every Liverpool penalty though “just stick a card up his nose”. So happy when Kepa missed. Neutral fan here.

    Chelsea v Spurs

Totally. If Kane had been “pushed” with such force he would have gone to ground 100% every single time.

    Open Age Corner Flag

This is great when you can pull it off; far more effective than a caution. However, it can quite easily backfire if the player refuses your request. Well done for recognising an opportunity with probably an element of humour. Did the flag go into the spectator area and did you consider a...

    Pitch Inspections

Yes we played. It was only a surface frost and quite soft underneath. It was heavy going made much easier for me by having two decent level 5 assistants. The people at the club worked hard on it all morning and had the roller on it. The pitch is still playable for next week so it was the right...

    Pitch Inspections

Appointed to a very rare game at the back of my house today. County Cup quarter final. I got up early to do a pitch inspection, went back to bed then did another an hour later. All from the comfort of my own home! In all honesty, I did go over and do a proper check. It was great to not have to...

    Notts Forest Vs Arsenal

Penalty for me. However, similar to a similar discussion last week, if someone grabs the back of your shirt when you are practically standing still it does not cause you to fall forward. Never.

    RDO's

In Cheshire we still have District FAs who report to County. There were 9 districts but now have merged with others to the current 3 districts. We used to be allowed to run our own referee courses and training but realistically, all we do now is run district cup competitions. I fear the...

    Did I handle this right?

I had to look this word up in the dictionary. I think you may have got the spelling wrong.

    Jimenez Double Yellow

I'm getting a bit bored of reading how Jon Moss was at fault here. The player was being a complete tool and can't have any complaints. Failing to retreat - tick, attempting to delay the restart - tick. He just stood there! The second yellow was completely avoidable; by Jimenez.

    Hold on tight

I remember this @JamesL . You certainly launched it a fair distance and I did join in the big "whaaaay"! The Cheshire League finals were always a good night to meet up with fellow referees. I haven't seen @Cheshire Ref for ages.

    Mpaima Israel

I remember this guy. I was never convinced he was who or what he claimed to be. However, I suspect there's a current poster who used to be on here under a different name causing some controversy again. Just sayin'.

    Fat TW@T

Ok coach, this player is taking no further part in the game. Either you sub him or I send him off. Over that age I wouldn’t offer an option; I’m fat and a tw*t but don’t need reminding!

    Things that players say

I sin binned a player a few weeks back for telling me how rubbish I was. I still don't know how I managed to keep my mouth shut; they were 2-0 down, both were own goals and they had missed a penalty, but I was rubbish!

    First aider dissent

At supply league and above its as @JamesL and @Mr Dean have said. At grass roots it's extremely likely that the "first aider" doesn't know the difference between a can of Deep Heat and a can of WD40 so I would be very tempted to just get rid of them.

    Summer training

Our RA runs a training session every Monday night and we often have a couple of EFL officials there. I've started going again and it helps. Also, the restart of the cameraderie is great. I couldn't go tonight as I played a round of golf on a very hilly course today and was knackered!

Player swears at an opponent verbal abuse only

I watched a mate referee a low level open age game yesterday. There was a junior game, about U15, on the next pitch with a lot of parents present. We had a mass brawl including spectators and the language throughout was terrible. The open age game was a joy to watch with very little swearing...

    Fa cup final referee

Whether you like VAR or not, this margin has been called as offside for 2 seasons now. The actual goal and saves were worthy of any FA Cup final win.

Most cards you’ve shown in a single match?

4 reds in a game twice (one was a pre season!) 5 reds after the final whistle of a cup final all to one team!

    McTominay on Son

There is no doubt that McTominay's hand touched Son's face but I can't accept that it was a "strike". Son's reaction was embarrassing but it's all too familiar in the game nowadays from players at all top levels. I very much doubt a Sunday League player would have reacted to such light contact...
