    Whistle hand

Finger grip on left hand. Was funny as I had a guy come and watch me and he said that the only advice he'd give me is to not raise my right hand when signalling for an IFK as it might backfire on me if I needed to hit the whistle quickly. He was suitably embarrassed when I told him I was left...

Manchester City Women vs Arsenal Women

Regardless of my views on her stopping the game or not, I do feel sorry for the ref here. I think we've all been in situations where something has happened and we've made a decision that in hindsight we would have Think I covered it in an earlier post. AR and 4th have a great view and on Comms...

    Under 12 Red Card

That’s one of my pet hates. I’d rather have a player tell me straight up that I’m sh*t than hit me with the whole ‘how much are they paying you?’ as for me that’s the roundabout way of calling you a cheat.

    Game 1

It comes with experience as you need to walk a fine line depending on how ‘bad’ the first tackle is. Early in the game, if you manage something that is a borderline caution, then the team that has been fouled feels like they get a “free one” too which can then cause you problems, with match...

Manchester City Women vs Arsenal Women

I’m not making an argument for gaining an advantage solely here. This is the position of the FOP just after the Man City player has received the ball. She has significant space in front of her down the left flank to stride into. For me, this is a very definition of a ‘promising attack’ I’m with...

Manchester City Women vs Arsenal Women

Don’t think it’s hard to say at all. intended pass is going into the middle of the park, into a player that is being rapidly closed down by a defender and the Man City player is not heading directly towards goal. After the deflection from the referee, it’s gone to a player who has clear space...

Manchester City Women vs Arsenal Women

If you look at the clip. The blonde Arsenal player moves from position to shut down the recipient of the intended pass, when it hits the ref and goes to the LB, she is then in a whole load of space which is why she can drive forward. Issue is exacerbated by the advantage signal.

Manchester City Women vs Arsenal Women

It’s a nailed on promising attack that it’s started. Law 9.1 is clear, ball should be considered out of play and a restart with a dropped ball to Man City. Not only - is she unfortunately incorrect in law on this one, she’s also then exacerbated it by hitting the advantage signal. 4th official...

    Open Age Corner Flag

On the first point. I’d built up a decent rapport with the player. First half he’d been fouled after laying the ball off, defender gone straight through the back of him, I’d played an advantage which led to a shot and then came back to caution the offender for a reckless tackle. Lad who’d been...

    Open Age Corner Flag

Step 6 middle yesterday. Local derby 2nd v 12th. First half was dreadful really poor quality and 0-0 at half time. Second half home team right winger scores an absolute worldie from the right hand side of the penalty area, long crossfield ball that he runs onto and strikes into the top...

    Forest vs Derby

Yep I only saw the score and later the highlights as was at my game, but as a Forest fan, seeing that Samba had already been booked, I couldn't understand why he wanted to get involved.

    Forest vs Derby

He'd already been booked for his shenanigans with Tom Lawrence after the penalty, think he'd probably have been yellowed had he not been on one already.

I remember those days! 90 mile round trip for me today, no observer though.

Whats up with different pay per match? Frankly at the moment it looks further south you go better pay.

We’re quite spread out here. To put it in context the longest trip that a club has to make in the Step 5 league is 190 mile round trip (Portland to Horndean) and the longest they could have to make, taking into account league cup is a 220 mile round trip (Portland to Fleet).

Same as @JamesL here. My longest trip for my supply league would give me a match fee of £91 at your rate. My game this weekend which is an average distance for me to travel would net me £72 (using contrib rate of 34p per mile) £65 sounds a lot and I do sometimes get games which are very close to...

    SE Dons matches

Last weekend I was 4th official for a Vase Game Step 5 v Step 6. Crowd was 850 which was the second highest in the home clubs history. Local Derby and both sides had promoted the game heavily on social media. Home club had brought in extra stewarding, plus a couple of dedicated security...

    ‘Only asking a question’

From my perspective, in the middle working with neutral AR's on a regular basis there's a few things: 1) I tend to be concentrating on what's happening on the pitch. I've had AR's go 'x was a nightmare today' and I've genuinely not noticed it, because it's been low enough level so as not to...
