    One foul resulting in chaos...

Not the wrong thing to do - absolutely the right thing to do. Nothing to be gained from continuing for another minute or two. Good decision

    Rolling substitutions

SeveraL years ago, when I was being observed (and I think was an observation back then?) whilst going from L7 to 6, my substitution technique was raised by the observer. First batch of subs was done well, and I got kudos for this, but later in the game he (the observer) observed that a sub came...

    First Veterans fixture (over 35)

Are you I Somerset? I, too, am doing a Vets county cup game today. Looks like heavy rainfall is going to add to my (our?) difficulties today. Wherever you are, hope you have a good game.

    Stranraer v East Fife

This is fantastic- only last week I was reading a thread on here about keepers double touches and DOGSO. All very interesting, I thought, but nothing I’ll ever see, other than in a copy of “You are the ref” or a particularly fiendish LoTG quiz. But no, here we have an example in the wild...

    IDFK Ball touch

Not quite: if the restart is a drop ball, the player can take as many touches as he wants. (All he can’t do is score directly from a drop ball without another player (either side) touching it.)

    MOAS appointment

They’re like busses! For years you are on the list, but hear nothing. Then, after my first FA Cup game two weeks ago, today I received another two MOAS emails: another FA cup game on Saturday, and then an FA Vase game the week later. At this rate, I’d best keep my Saturdays in May free … ;)

    Captain's Armbands - LOTG

I did a pre-season friendly last night. Two serious, well run and organised sides. Mea culpa - I didn’t spot it/look for it at the coin toss (probably because I was focused on getting him to remove his nose ring that he had taped over) but the red captain didn’t have an armband. I now know...

    MOAS appointment

Well that went well, enjoyed the game. Home team won 1-0 in front of a large crowd against a team from the next tier up. Weather was lovely, and the only goal came from an excellent advantage from the man in the middle. Was good to work as part of a team of three, was good to be an active part...

    MOAS appointment

Tuesday morning, I was sat in a cafe in Athens enjoying a cool drink when I decided to check my emails to find I had been appointed as a (replacement) AR and will also be making my FA cup debut on Saturday. Minor panic #1 - had no idea what my FAN number or Wholegame password is (normally do...

    Tossing of the Coin

Agree with @Trip on this I teach probability to A level ;) (Rock, paper, scissors, however, is not random. On the very rare occasions I have forgotten my coin, I start my stopwatch and ask a captain to call odds or evens. I then stop the stopwatch and look to see if the seconds are an even or...

    Conflict Of Interest - Opinions

Perhaps, because of the poor light, he couldn’t read his watch correctly and misread the time. 😉

    Junior/Youth last minute 13-0 dogso

I am reminded of a similar incident in a recent game of mine. It was also U14, the standard was high, two good teams playing each other, but with 15 mins to go yellows were 4-0 up against whites, and there was only going to be one winner. Just outside the box, white centre back attempts a...

    Hail

Had I had the opportunity, I would have done this, but we were a long way from the changing rooms, no nearby trees to shelter under, game had just started. It was an U18 inter school game, (friendly) with one side having traveled a significant distance, arrived a little late so had already...

    Hail

I’ve refereed in the cold and wet before, and I’ve refereed in the baking heat before - and paused the game for drinks breaks as appropriate. Ive ref-Ed in hail before, but yesterday the hail was biblical. About 5 mins after kick of it started to hail, and hail heavily. Normally hail is a one...

    Carlos Corberan Sending Off

Next question: What is the restart? I’m thinking free kick (idfk, not dfk) from where the manager kicked the ball?

    Carlos Corberan Sending Off

Thank you. Have now found the relevant bit under “Team Officials “ in Law 12 - missed it when I first went to the good book. Thanks again

    Micro shin pads

True story: a few years ago, one of our students didn’t have/had lost/couldn’t find his shin pads so ended up using two calculators for shin pads in an inter-school game. As both a maths teacher and refereeI was horrified when I heard about this!

    RefChat is now a teenager

Thank you, @Ross for having the foresight, determination and skills to set it up. i may only be a lowly level six rummaging around amongst the weeds of grassroots football, but I know that I am a better referee because of this forum. All the best for those difficult teenage years!!
