The amount of times the Athletico manager has set foot outside the TA but actually onto the FOP is nuts.
Not sure what the 4th official is really doing there if he's just watching him do it.
It is actually surprising the amount of things a player/coach or parent can do or say to a young referee that would actually get them arrested if they did it in the street!
Is your Referee Assosciation helping and supporting you through the processes? If you feel your safety was at risk then that is a safeguarding issue that they need to look into. I think sometimes we feel things have got to a stage where we feel really hard done by and want to know that the...
Someone stated a while back that the footwear makes a difference particularly when on Astro. I use Astro boots (Kaiser 5 Team) for Astro matches now and keep the moulds for any grass pitches. Using the moulds on Astros led me to getting sore shins later on in, but it didn't seem as bad using...
I spent way longer than I should have explaining a decision to a youth coach - long enough for one of their players to come over and say to them... "we just want to play football, can we do that?" Out of the mouths of babes.
I think the majority of players will find their coaches way too...
Done a fair few youth games and from experience there will always be one player who stands out and will see you as an outlet for frustration and will always question your decisions. I am learning to let the words flow in one ear and out of the other. But I have been advised to use the card for...
Every game is different. I had praise from one coach one week and got nonsense from them the next game I had their team. Nuts that he calls you a cheat for refusing to cheat! They are happy when their team wins and if they don't then the last person they will look at is themselves. I am...
Just because the shirt is let go doesn't mean to say it is not a penalty. Is it an obvious error by the MO? I don't think so. He has decided at the time that it is a PK and unless VAR is getting involved to mete out any sanction then it should not be anywhere near that decision for me.
Am I the only one to see the elbow in the back here that is giving the ref something to think about. Might not be enough for him to go down but is it a factor in him losing balance and going down? I'd give a pen.
I am much the same, you deem yourself lenient and try and change that the next game. I'm quickly learning not to take the last game into the next stuff. But advantage is something a lot of teams appreciate, as long as you do it with common sense.
Here is the big question: Did you enjoy it?
Just be aware that U14s there will be a lot more frustration going around in the young heads. They will question your decisions non-stop and make you doubt yourself. Don't let them in your head!
I am not disagreeing with this, but for me damage is already done the minute coaches start their nonsense, players have already heard that they have been 'hard done by' and they in turn will question the refereeing decisions. I suppose the only alternative is to get everyone together at the...
This is not to monitor the team officials so they can be booted (although if needs must) but to make sure that a fresh-faced referee isn't put on the spot. Youth games are meant to be the training ground and exposed to the hostility at the wrong time is just going to make them, like myself...
Leagues should publish their referee turnover for the season I think. The stark reality of the behaviour of coaches parents and players might just show the impact they have. Leagues should ask referees to mark down a 1 out of 10 rating for respect after every match.
I think the drop ball to the team last in contact with it throws a lot of folk, myself included into thinking that team has to be the one that takes the first touch.
Had one on my 3rd match. U15s. Just a nasty game to referee that had me thinking why I ever had the crazy idea of wanting to do this referee stuff. I wasn't strong enough at the time and they knew it.
