    Promotion fees

This is interesting as I know in Suffolk we don't have to give a penny for promotion applications. Completely understand why some others charge with all the costs it would require to facilitate it though.

    How far could I go?

As the last few years have shown in the eyes of the FA, if you are good enough you are young enough. I know a few referees who got to their highest levels later on in their careers. Simply stay dedicated and take every opportunity you get and you can get to wherever you want to be.

    Promotion dates L4 and above

Would be great but from what I was told, FA CORE was going to make it's decision on retentions by the end of May. We were told that we would get an email no matter the result and still waiting on mine. So clearly the FA doesn't like a timeline. Please someone tell me I misheard and it was end...

    Promotion dates L4 and above

Well done to everyone promoted this season! Lots of new L4s so interesting to see how many reclassifications there have been in regards to last year.

    Season review 24/25

18 Middles / 29 Lines / 2 4ths 2 Pens 48 🟨 5 🟥 Probably the least amount of games I've ever completed in a season, but midseason promotion can more than make up for that. " county Semi-Finals and 1 county final to cap off a season that feels like my most confident. Watched my first game this...

Player refuse to take out jewelry

There was a situation locally that lead to a game being abandoned due to jewellery not being removed. I know the ref his coach and the manager of the team quite well and there were two very different narratives being told. The ref is now apparently the busiest ref ever and should have just let...

    Cup final errors

This thread definitely shows that youth football is as much development for the officials as it is for the players. Everyone has dropped a clanger in their first few years and I think everyone involved gets too caught up in the occasion to remember what these age groups are really about. The...

    Palace v Man City FAC

Maybe Incredible was a bit too strong but overall an entertaining performance to say the least

    Palace v Man City FAC

My thinking was the pen wasn't enough to overturn, so you would hope an observer would back you on that, and as for the DOGSO the ref would have to be in the perfect position to see that, and even then I don't think it would be clear enough to give. Question marks on the ar but other than that I...

    Palace v Man City FAC

I just wanted to add that, apart from the obvious controversial VAR decisions, I thought the officiating team had an incredible game. Attwell made it very clear what he thought of some of the theatrics by telling Doku to get up, and I thought he helped the game be one of the most entertaining FA...

    Cup final errors

First year as a referee I was an AR for the U13 League plate final (move over Attwell think we know who's had the better finals over the years), and there was a possible ball over the line from the corner, must have been 15 players all crowded round the back post and I thought the keeper had...

    FA Cup Final

Great to see Issy and George from Suffolk getting involved in these well deserved for them both and had great seasons.

Throw ins- how far can the player get?

I usually start clamping down on it from the halfway line and heading into the attacking half, and quite relaxed in the defensive half unless they take the piss. Your best friend will always be remembering who has that 10-15 yard run up and work with them. A little "if you want a run start 10...

    Holding / Pulling An Opponent

Ok now that it's worded like that you are making me doubt myself. As the LOTG guru what would the expectation be for that?

    Holding / Pulling An Opponent

Think it depends on whether it's still in within your Advantage. If yes: bring it back to the first one and caution the offender. If no: let play continue and caution the defender for the first one when the ball goes out of play, even if it does look very strange.

Replaying last game of the season

So if the team that were previously in 5th (A) had won, my game team B would have needed a cricket score for them to have any hope. But because the Team A drew on Monday 2 awarded points would have put team B in the playoffs. And in a turn of events the away side still cannot put a team...

Replaying last game of the season

Don't even get me started on the fact that for a 4 day weekend they decided to do Saturday-Monday and not Fri-Mon 😡

Replaying last game of the season

Yes sorry, were in the same division and made yesterday a bit more exciting around the league due to possible finishes.

Replaying last game of the season

Wasn't too sure how to word it but a bit of backstory. Local step 5/6 league had all of its final games played yesterday bar 1, which happened to be my fixture. Huge step 5 playoff decisive game that was postponed due to the away team not being able to field a side, and the home team needed goal...

French referee looking to officiate in England

Something no one else has mentioned is DO NOT come in June, there won't be any football for you to get involved in and would waste a month of your experience. Other than that hope you enjoy it as much as the rest of us do 😁
