    WSL Liverpool v Aston Villa

Fair enough, but that it’s commonplace in Referees pre match instructions from L3 to L2 and perhaps beyond.

    WSL Liverpool v Aston Villa

Good one to provide a clip of which is certainly a discussion point. In my world with no complaints received from the defending team, I would be seeking to return to the half way line & re-starting the game as quickly as possible. lol

6-week ban non-submittal of red card

    Seems very harsh to me.

    Birmingham City v WBA

I never saw him appear at any time before the clip ended.

    Birmingham City v WBA

Whereby in respect of your final para i considered the Referee was very slow to move across to support him.

    Birmingham City v WBA

And yet their Manager considers it would have been a goal if the Championship had VAR (don’t think so!). I think he is just trying to save his job/appease his supporters. Perhaps he should consider not having a player positioned in front of the goalkeeper in the first place.

    Luton v Swindon Sub error

I believe RustyRef commented on this issue a week or so ago & said that it is practice on the EFL for just numbers to be taken (I could be wrong), so if this has been the case, then it would not be appropriate to penalise the 4th official when everyone has been doing it. However, in light of the...

    Grimsby penalty

I would be happy to accept that it was a dive, though was it a foul before the dive, albeit ‘soft’ .

    2026 Potential Law Changes

That’s a good question & not easy to decide without actually being involved in the actual game, but I would know.

    2026 Potential Law Changes

I think this is a bit more debatable. I was always taught that Match Control is paramount. However, what this actually means will differ from Referee to Referee in their interpretation & how they will deal with it. However, if they focus too much on what some may consider as match control and...

    City v Wolves

A broken neck and the time it took for his treatment was probably significantly less than a goalkeeper being treated for a tickle!!

    2026 Potential Law Changes

And imho this includes allowing too much stoppage time & then surpassing it when very often there is no need.

    Arsenal vs Man Utd

The Maguire incident will have mixed views, so by that standard I don’t think anyone can say it was a clear & obvious error (of course ex Man Utd Neville dismissed the claims of a penalty immediately from his commentary position lol!). Unusually perhaps, VAR only took seconds to turn down during...

    2026 Potential Law Changes

Safe Refereeing is quickly becoming an over-used term similar to what the game expects & I agree with Big Cat. I expect to see a climb down on letting things go when the temperature of the game is high, but not at any other time & on these occasions I wouldn’t be using the term safe refereeing...

    Palace v Chelsea

What I find the most disappointing is that the Laws of the Game were meant to be simplified for all to understand & although I believe IFAB had the right intention, they have just made the Laws for handball & offside overly unwieldy. Having said that, we do not want to go overly simplified eg if...

    Hackett

Absolutely agree with you about Graham Scott. He writes for a few organisations including Substack which until recently I had never heard of. Although not a Referee but a commentator and also very good is Clive Tyldesley.

    EFL referee appointments

Keith Hackett is a previous PL Referee & Ex head of PGMOL but I often don’t agree with what he sees.

    EFL referee appointments

Bit harsh to go on something you haven’t seen for yourself.

    Level of Referee

Me too and I am always there for it, but on this occasion he just said xx bench side ok.

    Level of Referee

Absolutely with MOAS, which made me wonder. Although the comments of others is accepted, during the PMD I didn’t think it would have been appropriate to have asked, especially when the L7 had some difficult moments & wouldn’t have done him any favours had I asked the Referee why he appointed him...
