VAR intervened for penalty awarded and yellow for a DFK and red.

But the offence was pulling.
It may have stopped on the line (I thought it continued in) but either way I thought that would be red all day.
The "double jeopardy" shouldn't apply as it was not a genuine attempt for the ball.
He literally pulled him back.

Or am I wrong?

The vid is blocked for me but it can't be an error in law as "attempting to play the ball" is still a subjective decision no matter how clear it is. Error in law can only apply to established facts. E.g. awarding an IFK for dissent but not cautioning. Or awarding an IFK for handball.
It sounds like an error in judgement.

I'm sure you're right - was probably using "error in law" too loosely. Meant to say that it felt more likely that he forgot the law than that he believed it was an attempt to play the ball.

I was at the game with a relative and said “he’s off” before the yellow card was even shown. Couldn’t believe the referee didn’t show a red immediately. He did take a second or two (presumably in comms with the AR) before awarding the penalty which I didn’t have an issue with though, as it was obviously very close in terms of inside/outside. I don’t like going all in on the “give a yellow and leave it to VAR” theory, but it did feel a bit like that with the yellow card last night.

I watched in an empty Glasgow pub (well, it emptied after the card) and said the same (before yellow came out).
Was absolutely shocked to see the colour.
 
I'd like to see the angle where it's clear and obvious the pull didn't continue in to the penalty area

Did he pull him? I thought it was more of a shove. Still a red card but obviously you’re then looking at the initial point of contact, whereas a pull can continue into the box.

I thought it was pulling outside. I actually thought, as screenshot above shows, I continued into area to be fair but you're potentially right, the last action could be more a push than pull. But was definitely pulling beforehand.
