VAR intervened for penalty awarded and yellow for a DFK and red.

But the offence was pulling.
It may have stopped on the line (I thought it continued in) but either way I thought that would be red all day.
The "double jeopardy" shouldn't apply as it was not a genuine attempt for the ball.
He literally pulled him back.

Or am I wrong?

Agreed - feels like an error in law as there’s no way anyone could see that as an attempt to play the ball.

The vid is blocked for me but it can't be an error in law as "attempting to play the ball" is still a subjective decision no matter how clear it is. Error in law can only apply to established facts. E.g. awarding an IFK for dissent but not cautioning. Or awarding an IFK for handball.
It sounds like an error in judgement.

For better or worse, we seem to continue to trend towards being more generous in deciding something was an attempt to play the ball.
