The Ref Stop
Whys VAR not getting involved at the end

Don't give me 'no one wants it' etc. Those are red card offences

Assistant is looking directly at the throat grab too

I turned it off as I have no desire to watch the presentation, but live reporting says Paredes did get a red?

If memory serves same happened in 1990. Red card during the game, opposition then won 1-0, and a second sent off after the final whistle.

Too many fan posts and conspiracies here. The current is too strong to swim against. I'll pick a different hill to die on.

I don’t think we’re perpetuating them, but the way events were playing out seemed set to just fulfil the conspiracists narrative.

The end result has cut that off at source. They’ll grumble, there’ll be more than one poster on everyone’s social media feed (if you have one) railing about corruption etc as there always is.

But if it had gone the other way, no sensible voice would ever have made headway, hence comments about us all losing. Once they feel justified and vindicated it’s hard to stop.

I don’t mind the disallowed goal. Looked like there could have been some contact, partial tread on toes, and Otamendi sold it well and early.

But the missed yellow for Fernandez in the first half, “one-way” game management at added half time, the lack of cards for blatant delay of game… urgh… ugly stench from this one again. Bonus, 30+ min half time.

Fifa and Collina repeatedly breaking their own rules/laws. Horrible for football.

Surely this is a match thread not specifically about refereeing. Yes refereeing will be the primary talk but its a global event that as football fans we would want to talk about.

To make this post about refereeing, from what I did see (missed a little of the game) I thought he had a very good game (even if he did get, in my opinion, get added on time wrong).

Why is VAR not interested? Don't see any foul in there and Vincic blew after the ball went in the goal.
Because is isn't a clear & obvious error. I don't think it was a foul, but he gave it on pitch and the attacker definitely trod on the defender's foot so it can't be a C&O error.
