You are complaining about £30? I paid AU$250 (about £134) for this season's ref rego, had to fork out another $250 for a mandatory new sponsor referee kit, and anther $108 for working with children check registrations. Thought the kit could last a few years until they change sponsors again and the WWCC lasts 5 years.I have just noticed my county registration fees are up by 50% this year - £20 to £30.
Any ideas why such a large rise?
I've not had a 50% pay rise in fees or in any work i have.
Mines £95 this season. £65 to local and £30 to national (unless paid late then it goes to £45).I have just noticed my county registration fees are up by 50% this year - £20 to £30.

Outsourcing could cost more.On the flip side early all County FA staff are working from home, and many counties have outsourced the admin.
Where are these places where ref fees have doubled? No but they have been £20 for the last few years and referee fees have mostly more than doubled since then and the cost of administering the services they give have also substantially increased too. You always have a choice to not register...
In the last 10 years, the fee on our county league has increased from £15+mileage to £35+mileage, and U14-U16 has increased from £15 to £35. If you were getting £35 for youth matches 7 years ago, that was certainly ahead of what the youth league fees were here.Where are these places where ref fees have doubled?
Our last rise was £30 to £35 7 years ago.
Not in my area of Kent has anything doubled. With petrol allowance being removed they've gone down and the fees have held the same for 7 years with no rise next season.
Can you referee a youth league without registering with a CFA?
Most of that funding is done by The FA rather than CFA's.If the county FAs are struggling with funding for referee activities why offer these free or vastly reduced referee courses?
Financially makes no sense at all.
I think the intention will be that improved learning materials will be (or already have been) produced, those delivering the learning events will be better trained with ongoing training as well.If the county FAs are struggling with funding for referee activities why offer these free or vastly reduced referee courses?

One of the regular issues is that after we deliver a course the attendees should be mentored on one or two of their first five games.I think the intention will be that improved learning materials will be (or already have been) produced, those delivering the learning events will be better trained with ongoing training as well.
I hope the learning involves more and definitely improved support for those newly qualified as well.
For the sake of refereeing for all , development is not just about producing the next set of Premier League referees but also producing good referees at grassroots level
Yes I’m out there mentoring new referees, but it does need to be far better structured to be of real developmental value. Across all formats of the game. One of the regular issues is that after we deliver a course the attendees should be mentored on one or two of their first five games.
Other than Academies, mentor support is at best sketchy and in many areas it is non-existent.
Now, if every match official in this forum would be willing to mentor on 4 occasions in season 2026-7 the issue would be 80% solved. 4 half days in 9 months
Let's be part of the solution rather than . . .
