Ronaldo gets, in my opinion, correctly sent off for violent conduct.

Fifa today has said he gets a 3 match ban, 2 suspended, so that he can play in the world cup.

I know we have no control over what happens after the match but what message does this send to players.

Its ridiculous if im being honest.

Theyve committed the "crime" and should face the consequences.
His ego and stature has got him the leniency.
Can tell you now, if it was a player from, say, Uzbekistan or Cape Verde they'd have to sit out.

FIFA have always done this, players get a one game suspension and they review whether to include additional sanctions. This is even documented on their website (https://www.fifa.com/en/tournaments...sa-2025/articles/yellow-red-cards-suspensions). That said, I had zero doubt that Ronaldo wouldn't be suspended for the world cup, even had he properly punched an opponent FIFA would have made sure he played. Just the same as they manipulated things to get Inter Miami at the Club World Cup so that Messi was there.

This is farcical.

VC has to be a 3 game ban.

I think the message is that you will be sent off and suspended.

Is this an abnormal punishment? From what @RustyRef has posted this seems to be normal fair for games played under this competition organiser.

But they've admitted it should be 3 games by saying its 3 but suspending 2 for 12 months on "good behaviour". Several reporters ive read have indicated it is because he has neve been sent off in 226 national team games.
The only other time they have reduced a ban, it seems, is when Zidane got let off after his headbutt in the WC final in 2006 but that was because he was retiring anyway and it was pointless, so was downgraded to community service.
They have said they will only act on the 2 games if he commits something similar in "gravity" to what he has done in this match. So again theyre saying what he done was bad but not bad enough to ban him properly.

But I assure you, if it was McGinn, Scotland would be without him for 3 games.

There were at least 3 cases off SFP in the club world cup. All suspended for 2 matches as per the regulations

a) one match for players who are sent off for denying the opposing team a goal
or an obvious goalscoring opportunity;

VC is a 3 game ban in England, but it isn't in every country. I can only go on what I posted directly from FIFA's website.

I tend to agree, if it was someone else they might not have escaped the ban, but football pundits have been saying since his red card he wouldn't miss any world cup games, it doesn't come as any surprise. I'd compare it to Inter Miami being given a place in the club world club, it wasn't for sporting merit and rather was arguably to make sure Messi was in the competition. It stinks, but that is FIFA for you. There's an argument to say it is actually bad for Portugal, they look so much better when he doesn't play, and won their last game 9-1 without him, and his arrogance can kill the changing room mood.

So which of these two would a red card for violent conduct would this fall under?

The fact that FIFA or other footballing bodies have provisioned it in their documentation doesn't excuse it. They are just covering their own butt for when they don't want to apply fair rules because it is not in their financial interest.
