The Ref Stop
I don't think anyone could say that a red card is wrong, but I think what saves the GK is that there isn't excessive amount of force in the contact. In the premier league that's always more likely to be a caution. Had the on field referee given a red card, I don't think you'd have seen a VAR review recommended.

Interesting take.
I can’t see how only a yellow is given here. The studs out off the ground makes it a leg breaker for me.
Maybe I’m harsh! ;)

Extremely harsh if that was a sending off imo.
Why? Please explain reasoning. I’m not trying to catch you out. I’m genuinely always looking for the best way to referee.

For me he is off the ground, out of control with studs out. Surely that’s the very definition of dangerous tackle?

I can see how it could easily have have been a red. What I can't get is why the keeper was outraged at getting a yellow!

I agree with all the comments made by Refereex at thread #2. For me it is the lack of excessive force/endangering player’s safety, but as RefereeX has said, if it was a red, then probably would not have been overturned. I also think have to take into account the level of football. If this was the dog & duck on Sunday morning, then perhaps a different outcome!!.

That’s a fair comment I guess, but when they get away with it at top football, we suffer the consequences lower down.

The lack of any significant contact probably saved him, plus the undoubted fact that keepers are given far more leeway for their challenges.

I remember this being discussed 2 years ago because I was at that game sat right in line with the challenge. As both a fan of the offended team AND a referee, I was happy with yellow. Lack of excessive force for me.
