Have you got any league guidance from the league you do in regards to this? I’ve never ever seen a 30 minute break required and don’t really understand how it would work if it was a shared ground/pitch

Yes the league ref secretary send out instructions and i believe it has always been officially e.g. under 16 usually 2 x 40 mins is game 1 2 x 20 mins with same format game 2, but an interval of 30 mins in-between. Quite honestly no-one wants it and doubt applied; I just mention this is requirement but (helps if raining cold, no changing rooms available etc) happy to set to usual max 15 mins but ok with say 10 mins; cant say ive ever had anyone object to 10 mins. Presumably if shared ground the club has to factor in the break time upon hire etc.

Just had a look through my emails and found the attached. This is from the youth league I started refereeing in.

Looks like I need to join your league of you’re getting double fee.

Never experienced a 30 min break in my world. It’s very strange since 2 x games of 1 hour duration each (120 mins in total) is equivalent to 1 old fashioned cup game with extra time, namely 90 mins plus 30 mins extra time (120 mins).

I agree. I've checked and it does stipulate:
Under 11 and 12First game (home -v- away) - 20 minutes each way with a 10 minute break
Full 30 minute break
Second game (away -v- home) - 20 minutes each way with a 10 minute break

etc. (per age group all have 30 mins full break)
 
looking at the weather this weekend you may also get the ridiculous situ where if you insist on the 30 min break when that's over the second match becomes say waterlogged and unplayable and I know a few pitches that is quite possible.
 
Certainly isn't double fee in most leagues. For the one I am involved with it is £65 as opposed to £50 for a normal game.

Sorry to hear that my experience is 1 normal fee paid twice (Home team pay one game and Away team the other game). I think these double-headers are of the league's own making as some age groups for example may have 8 teams in division 1, then 18 in division 2 and its the latter that struggle to fit all games in.

The difference in this set is the usual playing time has been halved, so two matches equates to one regular match.
Club officials need to be aware there is a maximum daily playing time for youth players.

Nothing to be sorry about. In an adult league a double header involves refereeing 120 minutes instead of 90 minutes. That's a third extra, £50 plus a third is £66.50 so £65 sounds personably reasonable to me, especially as you referee 120 minutes if a game goes to extra time and get precisely nothing extra for that. Granted not many leagues still have ET, but the principle stands.
