I would like to know if anyone knows if there is a smart watch or app that I can use whilst refereeing so I can track my runs whilst refereeing, like a strava/map my run scenario so I can see what areas I am running into etc

Please could anyone let me know.

Any GPS watch will do this.......the results are pretty meaningless..........

So any watch with a GPS you mean?

Do you have to carry your phone with you while you ref though or is it just through wearing the watch alone?

Depentsvwhat you buy. I used to use a Garmin's that uploaded to my laptop. Didn't have strava at the time but same thing. Still pretty pointless, just a mess of lines, bearing in mind if you're anything like me you'll cover eight to 10k per match depending on their skill levels.

If it's got GPS inbuilt then it won't need to be anywhere near your phone. See: Fitbit Ionic for example.

Read the watch specifications to see if it has native GPS or if it is just GPS linked via the phone.

I currently have a tomtom GPS watch, basic model. Does all I want for running, pace, distance etc. Don't do heart rate. Relatively cheap good memory, good battery life.

Refsix with a ticwatch s. Really good, gives distance, heart rate and a heatmap. You can record match events, but I still do that with pen+paper.

Heard the Garmin watches are very good with built in GPS which is nice as I dont carry my phone when refereeing so at least then that allows me to see a heat map scenario and see what positions Im getting into

Apple Watch with REFSIX. Don’t write in a notebook anymore.

Just remember if using a ticwatch, increase the brightness before you leave home and start the match. Thought I was being down with the kids, match details sent to watch in advance, all ready all I needed to do was tap it to start the match. Got there, tapped it, but then couldn't see a thing as I'd previously reduced the brightness to save battery life! Doh. At least I looked professional ish wearing 2 watches

If you use Strava, just before you kick off set your watch to 'run' then walk round the pitch. That will show you where you have run, and you can do a mini pitch inspection ;)

What would you all say is the best fitness watch for refereeing?

I use Apple Watch with Strava. I did have a Garmin Forerunner 235 which was ok as a starter, but the Apple Watch is so much better and you can use Refsix on it too (I don't, but you can).

Used to. They've all got tag heuer connected now.
£1k + watch.
They used to all use polar v800. That's had been replaced with a new flagship, vantage V
Premier league have, yes. Quite a few European refs use a Polar M430, which is less than £150.

I have the Garmin vivoactive, and really like it. There is a Ref Watch ap for it (I think it cost 5 pounds or Euros or something like that), which tracks time up and down (you choose which is bigger), vibrates for full time and every 30 seconds after. It also has a stop button track stoppage--which vibrates periodically so you don't forget to to restart it. Easy to set for different game lengths, extra time. It tracks mileage during games. It is not used for tracking game events (different people have different views on that--that part of those watch functions always seemed to me a solution searching for a problem--I can write it much faster than I can mess with a phone). It will give you a map of where you ran during the game on top of a satellite image, but it is not a heat map.
