Delaying goal kicks ..

How do you know tht is why he was cautioned and there wasn’t something else that happened? Could he have said something inappropriate to the ref? A high level ref forgetting to do a count down would be an awfully major mistake. (I mean, unthinkable—lie, a VAR forgetting to check other players for OS!)

@socal lurker Once the first one is given some refs will be starting the count far too soon on the next goal kick.
Still wouldn't expect people to get close.


In England for 8 second count infringements, the third offence is a yellow card and the 4th a red!

The GK is taking the ball and giving it to the other team for a scoring chance. Itks hardly an effective delaying tactic at all. The GK could create more delay at less risk to his team by waiting till the count is at 2 and launching the GK out for a TI.

Could there be radically weird scenarios where a caution is really warranted for PO for 8 second violations? Sure, we could make some up, but it really isn’t necessary as a standard for a third offense as the main punishment is sufficient to punish him and his team. Kinda like with the PKs—a GK who infringes changes a save into an 80% chance for the other team to score. The caution isn’t a deterrent at all, it’s just noise.

We have a Game that, overall, is sending the message that we want to reduce cards, and they want to draw a line here for a caution? That’s just plain silly.

Once this happens in a high profile game it will change. Agree with it being silly. Giving a corner kick away is punishment enough why throw cards around? Send thebkeeper off for wasting 32 seconds of time that has already been punished with 4 corner kicks? Similar to mandating a striker's 3rd offside offence with a yellow card and forth with a red card.
