I have it on relatively good authority that MO had a very minor issue, passed a fitness assessment but Collina chose not to risk it. Should be all good to continue in the tournament. Also refereeing related for the WC, it's a shame to see Michael Oliver has picked up an injury meaning him and his AR's have been replaced for the Ivory Coast vs Ecuador game. Hopefully he has a speedy recovery and it isn't the end of his tournament.
One thread for all 104 games?Want to post about the Fifa World Cup, heres the thread to do it in
Go nuts!!
I think that is exactly how the public will perceive it and will probably also think this is the type of incident that should be reviewed by VAR - blatant simulation leading to an incorrect caution to an opponent (who also happened to be in the Home USA team). Although as you intimated it’s perhaps not part of the existing protocols (even in the World Cup), I am happy with it and hopefully will now deter others from doing it from early in the competition. It’s not mistaken identity. It’s an incorrect decision. Really not sure that’s VAR reviewable, although the public will support it
