Ive been given the prestigious fixture of an FA Youth Cup Final this Sunday.

Wasn't expecting a fixture like this only a year after becoming a L7 Ref.

Theres even a paying crowd attending.

I am nervous and excited, have been asked to arrive 90 minutes before kick off (seems an age) with the rest of the team, Im told we will be looked after by a Referee Development officer.

Can anyone advise what to expect and anything I should do differently to the 30 or so Youth fixtures Ive previously covered?

Well done on your appointment. The big difference is that you will have neutral assistants. Treat the game as any other game and try to avoid the "external noise". Concentrate on your game and don't get swayed into making a decision by the crowd.

Best of luck

Thank you, that will be refreshing to have neutrals and a 4th Official.

Whilst I am on the progression pathway Ive yet to do the quota of Adult matches, will I have been selected at random for this fixture or would there have been some methodology on the County FA selection, Ive had no formal feedback from any of my fixtures other than the post match managers comments.(Generally positive).

Congrats the first final appointment is always a special one.

The appointments are generally done by merit and will be given to refs who have had good club marks and you never know who could be at any of your games i.e county reps who could have said you did really well

If you havn't done ET and PSO before, familiarise yourself with them. Even if you have done them make sure you do refreshers. LOTG is a good place to start.

Highly unlike game will have ET, but ensure you're familiar with competition rules to be safe.

Penalty shoot outs, definitely ensure you're familiar with.

Also important to note - and no discredit to your appointment (congratulations) - but this is not THE “FA Youth Cup Final” which is a specific, prestigious top-level fixture.
