Watching the Chelsea v Bayern Leverkusen friendly on TV, and noticed Tyrique George was wearing taped up earrings. How does that happen at that level ?

The Ref Stop
According to the FA, jewelry is not permitted whether its taped or not. The referee could have done a improper inspection or the competition permits it (very unlikely). At that stage those little things should be taken care of.

Yeah right. I suppose they tape over their wedding ring gap so it doesn’t get a suntan as well do they? 😂
Are you really going to make the guy who puts tape around his finger as substitute for the ring take it off? I mean technically you could, but really?

The tape on the ears could have decived the referee's decision, making it not stand out as much as without concealment of the earrings.

This thread makes me think of my niece, who is a soccer player and just got her ears pierced with a new season starting. I noted to my brother that could be an issue for playing, as no competent ref would let her tape them to play. He said that isn’t an issue in their league . . .

I looked on the FA and found that earring are not permitted in games, but I also saw a rule on the Boston Youth Rec League saying that earrings are allowed as long as the player covers them in tape. Local rules for youth competitions make the rules in their games, so in some small leagues you can.

To stop infection I believe. Or when they have those huge holes there’s an argument to say it would be dangerous not having it taped as a finger could fit in it. I remember back to Ricardo Fuller at Stoke.
In regards to OP it's unlikely the latter and very likely the former.

Having a look at all his recent images I can't see an earing or having it taped in any game (exept v Bayern Leverkusen). He likely has a new piercing which is recommended to be covered.

On the topic, in general, would anyone allow/disallow these (piercing retainers) or similar in a piercing?
