Level 3W Referee
Thinking aloud a bit here but given the Women's pathway jumps from County level to National League - it's a bit contentious that there's no induction for new level 3Ws? Or even existing ones to refresh standards/embed new expectations. Especially given all the changes the game is going through every year.

Refs didn't even get branded patches last year which I feel is unimaginable in the NLS/NLN.

I feel it's one of the things contributing to a lack of confidence amongst referees on this pathway that I saw a lot last season but not so in the men's pathway.

Not sure if it's an equality issue or resources deficiency for the women's pathway compared to the men's but if standards slip on one side it will mean they slip on the other too.

The Ref Stop
I've heard as a rumour that they will be giving priority to the officials on Women's CORE for middles on the WNL however that isn't many so should still be a good amount for everyone else. I think the biggest issue they have for 3W is that there are so many of you and there aren't anywhere near the amount of progression opportunities as there is in the men's game.

End of the day it is pretty equivalent to a L4 just without the extra 2 promotions before being under PGMOL that we have. Will be interesting to see how they handle this long term as the only info I get about the women's ref pathway is from a friend who's involved in it.

Too many probably explains it - I'd welcome them actually enforcing the "no 2 in 2" rule and maybe consider making officials choose a pathway. Some 4's who are 3W have rubbish attitudes towards women's matches.

I just see all the support and development 4's get and think 3W/2W would benefit from some of that - I will add that between the start of 24/25 and now it's a marked increase in support.

I can understand the CORE focus and the female officials focus - fully behind the principle there

With the Female pathway now going under Harley I suspect the process will be more in-line with the male pathway. Remember in previous years you had to request to go for promotion etc. So lets see how it develops.

The problem with the numbers seems to be a lack of reclassifications, despite Suffolk only having 2 teams in the WNL, and the next closest clubs being an hour+, I think we have at least 6/7 referees at 3W. Nothing against these guys/girls but if that's the trend across the country then there is a real issue and they need to be stricter on officials.

I think it varies a lot! The south has lots of teams but less officials, especially in the west.
