Sad to see David Webb’s debut on the PL end so early at Leicester City following his (accidental) blow to the head by a Leicester player. Hopefully he will be given at least another game.

The Ref Stop
Feel for him, especially on his debut. I had similar in a cup final, a corner got cleared to the edge of the box, I saw an attacker coming into volley it so I moved out of the way. Unfortunately I moved straight into the path of another attacker who was racing in, he was more alert than I was and put his arm up to defend himself. End result was me being poleaxed with a forearm to the head. I didn’t really know what had happened, I had to be told after.

I carried on after treatment but really shouldn’t have, I was all over the place. It was the right thing for Webb to go off, only needs one dubious decision and you then have people questioning whether he was actually capable of carrying on.

I see that David Webb was given another PL game last night between Crystal Palace v Wolves & appears to have got through it unscathed which is good news. The fact that I haven’t seen any comments about this game on the forum hopefully means he had a decent game - or at least no controversial incidents (unless anyone knows differently!).

Certainly didn't think he'd had a bad game from the footage I've seen of the whole game. Nothing overly special though but at the same time it was probably one of the easiest fixtures he'll ever have to referee 🤣

True on paper, but things can still happen. There was a contested opening goal of the game with the ball crossing the goal-line, but quickly accepted via watch technology as well as replay footage which showed ball clearly over the goal-line. He will probably have to wait for a bit now for Howard to decide whether to promote him to SG1.

It seems a strange one with David Webb, there’s no doubt he is one of the better SG2 referees but are they really going to promote him when he is nearly 50?

Fair point, though if there is not meant to be ageism & therefore no retirement age in this country then shouldn’t be an issue. What might be an issue is whether he can pass the PL fitness test. Whilst he always looks up with play in the Championship, the PL is quicker, though overall he still did well in that department last night. Also, perhaps HW may know something we don’t - potential retirement so DW may have achieved his ambition.

Given Derek Eaton is still going at 61 I guess anything is possible. Was astonished when I heard his age during commentary on last nights game.
